Process for dehydrating alcohols to ethers
A process for dehydrating C.sub.2+ alcohols to ether products in the presence of a catalyst and promoter, wherein the catalyst is at least one aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst which is a medium pore zeolite having a 3-dimensional framework structure, and the promoter is one or more organic carbonyl compounds or derivatives thereof, and wherein and the molar ratio of promoter to C.sub.2+ alcohols is maintained at less than 1.

INTEGRATED PROCESS FOR MAKING PROPENE OXIDE AND AN ALKYL TERT-BUTYL ETHER
An integrated process for making propene oxide and an alkyl tert-butyl ether comprises dehydrogenating a feed stream comprising propane and iso-butane to provide a stream comprising propene, iso-butene and hydrogen; separating this stream into a stream consisting essentially of hydrogen and a stream comprising propene and iso-butene; separating the stream comprising propene and iso-butene into a stream comprising propene and a stream comprising iso-butene; reacting a part or all of the stream comprising iso-butene with an alkanol in the presence of a solid acid catalyst to provide an alkyl tert-butyl ether; and reacting a part or all of the stream comprising propene with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an epoxidation catalyst to provide propene oxide.
PRODUCTION OF AT LEAST 1-HEXENE AND OCTENE FROM ETHENE
The invention is concerned with the production of 1-hexene and octenes from ethene. 1-Butene is optionally also to be produced. The problem addressed by the present invention is that of developing a process for producing 1-hexene from ethene by MTHxE etherification to achieve better chemical utilization of the employed carbon atoms. This problem is solved by catalytic retrocleavage of MTHxE into the C.sub.6 olefins and the alcohol, reuse of the alcohol in the etherification and reaction of the obtained C.sub.6 olefins with ethene to afford C.sub.8 olefins. In this way the alcohol is not lost from the process but rather is internally recirculated as a derivatizing agent. The less attractive C.sub.6 olefins from the cleavage product are upgraded to octene with further ethene in order to provide a further commercial product.

Dispensing system for use in cryogenic skin treatment
The invention relates to a dispensing system for use in cryogenic skin treatment that is capable of targeted delivery of a cryogen at a high rate, thereby achieving rapid freezing of targeted skin tissue. The dispensing system of the present invention uses a cryogen that contains dimethyl ether and is designed to deliver the cryogen in an accurate and very effective manner.
TRIFUNCTIONAL PROCESSES IN CATALYTIC DISTILLATION
A process for the production of alkyl ethers including feeding a hydrocarbon feedstock and a first alcohol feedstock to a fixed bed reactor containing an etherification catalyst. The hydrocarbon feedstock and the first alcohol feedstock are contacted in the first fixed bed reactor to react the isoolefins with the alcohol in the presence of the etherification catalyst to produce a first product stream. The first product stream is fed together with a hydrogen feedstock and a second alcohol feedstock to a catalytic distillation reaction system containing a trifunctional catalyst to concurrently isomerize at least a portion of the alpha-olefins, hydrogenate at least a portion of the diolefins, and etherify at least a portion of the isoolefins and alcohol, producing a bottoms product comprising the one or more ethers and an overhead product comprising n-alkanes, isoalkanes, unreacted alpha-olefins, unreacted internal-olefins, unreacted isoolefins, and unreacted alcohol.
