Method for determining mixing temperature of asphalt mixture based on surface energy theory
Disclosed is a method for determining a mixing temperature of an asphalt mixture which includes the following steps: S100, obtaining a test result of surface energy of hot-melt asphalt; S200, obtaining, according to a calculation formula for total adhesion work and in combination with the test result of the surface energy of the hot-melt asphalt, total adhesion work of an asphalt and aggregate interface at different mixing temperatures; S300, determining a temperature range corresponding to peak values of the total adhesion work of the asphalt and aggregate interface; and S400, calculating a median value of the temperature range determined in S300, so as to determine an optimum mixing temperature of the asphalt mixture.
Methods for Evaluating Asphalt Mix Compositions Containing Reclaimed Asphalt
Compositions including reclaimed asphalt may be optimized for performance that is comparable with asphalt compositions that do not contain any reclaimed asphalt. In a method to determine an optimal level of reclaimed asphalt for use with at least a rejuvenator, TSRST tests are carried out on test asphalt compositions with varying levels of reclaimed asphalt (RA) materials to obtain failure temperature and failure stress data for all compositions. The test results are compared to identify composition(s) with optimal amount of RA. The optimal asphalt composition containing the maximum amount of RA for comparable performance may have a failure temperature within±5% of the failure temperature of the reference composition, and a failure stress that may be equal to or greater than the failure stress of the reference composition.

System and method for reducing viscosity variations in roofing asphalt
An asphalt shingle coating system that includes a coater, a mixer, a viscosity gauge, a wax supply, a wax pump and a control system. The coater applies a layer of a coating asphalt mixture on an asphalt shingle substrate. The mixer mixes the coating asphalt mixture and is positioned upstream of the coater. The viscosity gauge may be positioned between the coater and the mixer, and it measures the viscosity of said coating asphalt mixture before it is delivered to the coater. The wax supply is in fluid communication with the mixer and a wax pump may deliver a volume of wax from the wax supply to the mixer, and the control system may selectively adjust the operation of the wax pump to substantially maintain a desired viscosity of said coating asphalt mixture.
