FAST DRYING ASPHALT COMPOSITIONS WITH IMPROVED PERFORMANCE AT LOWER ASPHALT RESIDUE
Disclosed herein are asphalt compositions. In some embodiments, the asphalt compositions can include asphalt, a polymer, and a basic salt such as aluminum sulfate. In some embodiments, the asphalt compositions can include asphalt, a polymer, and an inorganic acid such as phosphoric acid. The asphalt compositions can include asphalt in an amount of from 50 wt % to 99.9 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt composition. In some embodiments, the asphalt compositions can include a styrene-butadiene copolymer in an amount of from 0.05 wt % to 10 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt composition. The basic salt can be present in an amount of from 0.01 wt % to 5 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt compositions. The acid can be present in an amount of from 0.005 wt % to 0.1 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt compositions. Methods of making and using the asphalt compositions are also disclosed.
Sterol additive in asphalt pavement
Pavement aging can be reduced by applying to an asphalt-containing pavement a topcoat layer or a surface treatment containing asphalt binder with sterols.
STEROL ADDITIVE IN ASPHALT PAVEMENT
Pavement aging can be reduced by applying to an asphalt-containing pavement a topcoat layer or a surface treatment containing asphalt binder with sterols.
ASPHALT EMULSION AND METHOD OF FORMING THE SAME
Asphalt emulsions and methods of forming an asphalt emulsion are provided. In one example, the asphalt emulsion includes a base asphalt component present in an amount of from about 40 to about 60 wt. % of the asphalt emulsion. Water is present in an amount of from about 40 to about 60 wt. % of the asphalt emulsion. An oxidized high-density polyethylene wax is present in an amount of from about 0.5 to about 5.0 wt. % of the asphalt emulsion. A slow-setting cationic emulsifier is present in an amount of from about 1.0 to about 2.0 wt. % of the asphalt emulsion.
ISOCYANATE-MODIFIED ASPHALT COMPOSITIONS
Asphalt emulsions comprising asphalt present in an amount of 50% by weight or greater, based on the weight of the asphalt emulsion, an isocyanate present in an amount of 0.05% by weight or greater, based on the weight of the asphalt emulsion, and water. The isocyanate is derived from an aromatic, a cycloaliphatic, or an aliphatic isocyanate, or a mixture thereof. Preferably, the isocyanate includes methylene diphenyl diisocyanate. The asphalt emulsion can comprise one or more polyols. Methods of making the asphalt emulsions are also described.
Compositions and methods for the introduction of elastomeric reinforcement fibers in asphalt cement concrete
The present invention relates to elastomeric polymer fiber reinforced asphalt cement concrete for use in a variety of applications. In particular, the reinforcement fibers are effective to reduce or preclude voids and/or cracks formed in the asphalt upon placement and to render a self-healing property to the placed asphalt.
IMIDAZOLINE FUNCTIONALIZED OXIDIZED FATTY SUBSTANCE EMULSIFIERS AND METHODS
Imidazoline functionalized oxidized fatty substance emulsifiers are made by obtaining a fatty substance composition; performing an oxidative oligomerization of the fatty substance composition to produce an oxidized fatty substance composition comprising from about 10 to about 75% by weight of oligomeric fatty acid components based on the total weight of fatty acid containing components in the composition; reacting the oxidized fatty substance composition with a polyamine comprising at least one ethylene diamine functional group with at least three hydrogens attached to the two nitrogens to form an aminoethylamido functionalized oxidized fatty substance composition; and forming an imidazoline functionalized oxidized fatty substance emulsifier from the amino-ethylamido functionalized oxidized fatty substance composition. Such compositions are particularly useful in asphalt applications and corrosion inhibition.
System and Method for Pre-Treatment of Rubber-Modified Asphalt Cement, and Emulsions Thereof
This invention encompasses asphalt cement emulsions, as well as methods for preparing a pre-treated rubber-modified asphalt cement emulsions and methods for coating industrial surfaces using asphalt cement emulsions.
Non-carboxylated styrene-butadiene copolymers, preparation method and use thereof
A non-carboxylated styrene-butadiene copolymer, preparation method and use thereof are provided. The non-carboxylated styrene-butadiene copolymer is prepared by hot polymerization in the absence of acid monomers and is used in asphalt-based systems such as asphalt emulsions.
Asphalt products and methods of producing them for rejuvenation and softening of asphalt
The present invention relates to relates to a method of producing an improved asphalt. This method includes providing an asphalt binder and providing a compound of formula (I): ##STR00001##
as described herein. The asphalt binder is mixed with the compound of formula (I) under conditions effective to produce an improved asphalt. Also disclosed are an asphalt product and a method of making asphalt material.
