Asymmetric pigment
An asymmetric pigment including a first Fabry-Perot structure; and a second Fabry-Perot structure; wherein the first Fabry-Perot structure and the second Fabry-Perot structure have a similar hue angle within +/45 degrees is disclosed. Other asymmetric pigments are also disclosed as well as methods of making the disclosed pigments.
EFFECT PIGMENTS BASED ON COLORED HECTORITES AND COATED COLORED HECTORITES AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF
This invention deals with effect pigment comprising a colored hectorite which is produced by ion exchange process of an initial hectorite with a cationic dye, wherein the initial hectorite can be represented by the formula
K.sub.z/n[Li.sub.xMg.sub.(3.0(x+y)ySi.sub.4O.sub.10F.sub.2](I); wherein n is the charge of K and z=x+2y with 0.2<z<0.8; x=0-0.8; y=0-0.4; K is a cation chosen from a first group consisting of Li.sup.+, Na.sup.+, K.sup.+, NH.sub.4.sup.+, Rb.sup.+, Cs.sup.+, Mg.sup.2+, Ca.sup.2+, Ba.sup.2+ or mixtures thereof or from a second group consisting of alkylammonium salts with 2 to 8 C-atoms, wherein the alkyl can be branched or linear, or from a mixture of cations from the first and the second group and represents not occupied octahedral lattice sites.
Furthermore, these colored hectorites can have a coating thereon comprising at least one layer with a high index of refraction >1.8 or a semitransparent metal and optionally an outer protective layer.
Hybrid colored metallic pigment
A thin film structure including a reflector layer; and a hybrid layer including an organic colored material and at least one of an organic filler and an inorganic filler; wherein a concentration of the at least one of an organic filler or an inorganic filler is in a range of from about 3 wt. % to about 30 wt. %. A method of making a thin film structure is also disclosed.
COMPOSITION INCLUDING A COLOR SHIFTING PIGMENT AND A COLOR FILTER
A composition including a first color shifting pigment having a first color shift that extends from a starting color at normal through a plurality of colors as a viewing angle is increased to a final color, wherein the first color shift rotates counterclockwise relative to, and about, an origin of the L*a*b* color space; and a color filter that transmits a portion of the first color shift of the first color shifting pigment and absorbs a remainder of the first color shift of the first color shifting pigment; wherein the composition has a second color shift different from the first color shift; and wherein the second color shift has a first portion that rotates counterclockwise relative to the origin and a second portion that rotates clockwise relative to the origin is disclosed. A security device including the composition is included. A method of making the composition and a method of authenticating the security device are also disclosed.
Pigments having a vapor deposited colorant
A particle including a core particle; and a vapor deposited colorant including an organic colored material that encapsulates the core particle. The particle can be a special effect pigment or a thin film interference pigment. Methods of making the particle are also disclosed.
Making a liquid electrophotographic (LEP) paste
A method of making a liquid electrophotographic (LEP) paste is disclosed herein. A base paste is made by forming a dispersion of a pigment and a non-polar carrier, adding a transparent resin dispersion to the pigment dispersion to form a dispersion mixture, and homogenizing the dispersion mixture. The transparent resin dispersion includes a polymer dispersed in a non-aqueous carrier. The homogenizing may be accomplished by agitating the dispersion mixture at a frequency of less than 1 kHz, thereby forming the paste.
