The invention relates to a method for producing particles of mineral material comprising grinding of at least one mineral material in the presence of water. The grinding according to the invention is carried out in the presence of at least one polymer obtained by a radical polymerization reaction of a partial sodium salt of itaconic acid and partial decarboxylation of the polymer obtained followed by partial or total neutralization of the decarboxylated polymer. The invention also relates to an aqueous composition comprising particles of ground mineral material and such a polymer, in particular a mass-loading composition for the production of paper or a paper-coating-colour composition.

A process for preparing a composite containing submicron sized particles of metal oxide pigment and a natural-based organic compound is disclosed. The process includes a step of grinding a metal oxide pigment and a oligomeric and/or polymeric carbohydrate together by means of a ball mill, to obtain a pigment composite containing particles having a submicron granulometry and an outer surface partially or completely covered by the oligomeric and/or polymeric carbohydrate. A pigment composite including pigment particles having a mean hydrodynamic diameter smaller than 1 μm is also disclosed.

TITANIUM DIOXIDE DISPERSION

The invention provides a dispersion of precursor titanium dioxide particles having an intensity mean peak value particle size, measured by DLS, or a number mean peak value particle size, measured by DLS, in the range from 0.2 to 2.0 μm within a dispersing medium, wherein the particle size distribution of the titanium dioxide particles in dispersion is narrower than the particle size distribution of the precursor titanium dioxide particles. There is also provided the use of the dispersion of titanium dioxide particles to attenuate infrared radiation, particularly in a cosmetic composition, more particularly a cosmetic composition to provide protection against IR radiation, more particularly IRA radiation. There is also provided a personal care composition comprising the titanium dioxide dispersion.

The polymer used is obtained by means of polymerisation in the presence of sodium hypophosphite, disodium dipropionate trithiocarbonate and at least one radical-generating compound. An infrared reflecting fiber includes 76.0 parts by weight to 88.5 parts by weight of a carrier, 1.8 parts by weight to 4.0 parts by weight of an infrared reflecting composition, 2.5 parts by weight to 7.5 parts by weight of a titanium dioxide containing composition, and 6.0 parts by weight to 16.0 parts by weight of a color adjusting composition. The carrier includes polyethylene terephthalate (PET). When a content of 5.0 wt % to 7.5 wt % of the infrared reflecting composition and a balance of the carrier are mixed together to form a first fiber, a maximum infrared reflectivity of the first fiber is between 61% and 70%.

In general Formula I, R.sup.1 to R.sup.8 are the same or different and are selected from C.sub.mH.sub.2m+1, wherein m is ≤10, and fluorinated derivatives thereof wherein at least one hydrogen atom is replaced by fluorine, C.sub.6H.sub.5, and (EO).sub.x(PO).sub.y and copolymers thereof, wherein EO is an oxyethylene unit, PO is an oxypropylene unit, x and y are the same or different, and x+y is in the range of 1 to 50. The at least one non-reactive polysiloxane has a viscosity in the range of 50-3000 mm.sup.2×s.sup.−1 at 25° C. The inorganic pigment treated with the at least one non-reactive polysiloxane of general Formula I has a residual moisture content of less than 1 wt-%.
