Effect pigments based on artificially produced substrates with a narrow size distribution

The invention relates to effect pigments comprising artificial platelet-shaped substrates which have at least one optically active coating, where the effect pigments have a volume-averaged cumulative undersize distribution curve with the characteristic numbers D.sub.10, D.sub.50 and D.sub.90, said cumulative undersize distribution curve having a span ΔD of 0.7-1.4, and the span ΔD being calculated in accordance with formula (I):
ΔD=(D.sub.90−D.sub.10)/D.sub.50  (I),
and the average thickness of the artificial platelet-shaped substrates being 500 nm to 2000 nm.

Interference pigments

The present invention relates to interference pigments based on transparent, low-refractive-index, flake-form substrates which have a high-refractive-index coating consisting of TiO.sub.2 having a layer thickness of 20-200 nm and optionally an outer protective layer, and to the use thereof in paints, coatings, printing inks, security printing inks, plastics, button pastes, ceramic materials, glasses, for seed coloring, as dopants in the laser marking of plastics and papers, as additive for the laser welding of plastics, as additive for coloring in the foods and pharmaceuticals sectors, and in cosmetic formulations and for the preparation of pigment compositions and dry preparations.

A pigment mixture comprising at least two or three interference pigments of different interference colours selected from the colours red, green and blue, suitable for use in paints, coatings, printing inks, security printing inks, plastics, ceramic materials, glasses and in the preparation of pigment preparations, dry preparations and in particular cosmetic formulations.

FIVE-LAYERED PIGMENTS

The present invention relates to five-layered pigments based on multi-coated platelet-shaped substrates which comprise a layer sequence comprising (A) a layer of SnO.sub.2 having a layer thickness of 0.1-50 nm, (B) a high-refractive-index coating consisting of TiO.sub.2 in the rutile modification having a layer thickness of 10-800 nm, (C) a colorless coating having a refractive index n1.8 having a layer thickness of 20-800 nm, (D) a high-refractive-index coating consisting of SnO.sub.2 having a layer thickness of 0.1-50 nm, (E) a layer of TiO.sub.2 in the rutile modification having a layer thickness of 10-800 nm,
and optionally (F) an outer protective layer,
and to the use thereof in paints, coatings, powder coatings, printing inks, security printing inks, plastics, ceramic materials, glasses, as dopants for the laser marking of papers and plastics, in cosmetic formulations and for the preparation of pigment preparations and dry preparations.
