Water-based hydrogel blend coating and method of application to elastomeric articles

A water-based hydrogel polymer coating and a method of application to natural rubber or other elastomeric latex products are provided. The water-based hydrogel polymer is mixed with a blend of at least one elastomeric material to provide a hydrogel polymer blend composition. The water-based hydrogel polymer blend composition is applied in a single application to an elastomeric article, such as gloves, without additional solvents in the polymer blend composition and without a separate acid or chemical priming step. The water-based hydrogel coating herein provides increased lubricity to facilitate improved wet and dry donning of the elastomeric article.

METHODS FOR PRODUCING POLYISOPRENE LATEX DISPERSIONS

In various embodiments, methods for producing aqueous polyisoprene latex from natural cis-1,4-polyisoprene are described. The natural cis-1,4-polyisoprene may be sourced from guayule scrubs. In various embodiments, the method comprises extracting guayule plant material to form a miscella, fractionating the miscella to a preliminary cement, diluting the preliminary cement to a cement for dispersing, dispersing the cement in an aqueous surfactant mixture under high shear to produce an emulsion, and de-solventizing the emulsion to produce an aqueous latex dispersion. The rubber solids level can then be adjusted by centrifugation and dilution in water to produce a final aqueous cis-1,4-polyisoprene latex.

CROSSLINKED COATING COMPOSITIONS FOR PACKAGING ARTICLES SUCH AS FOOD AND BEVERAGE CONTAINERS

A method of forming a coating on a food or beverage container, which includes spraying a coating composition onto an interior surface of the food or beverage container, where the coating composition includes a latex copolymer and a metal drier or crosslinking agent. The latex copolymer is a reaction product of monomers that include (a) one or more styrene-mimicking monomers containing one or more cyclic groups and one or more ethylenically-unsaturated groups, at least a portion of such styrene-mimicking monomers being polycyclic monomers containing ring unsaturation, and (b) one or more other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of each of BPA, PVC, other halogenated monomers, and optionally styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.
