PROCESS TO REDUCE ENDOTOXIN IN GELATIN

The present disclosure is directed to processes for reducing the endotoxin level in gelatin and the resulting gelatin with low endotoxin content. The process includes dissolving a salt in a gelatin solution and filtering the gelatin-salt solution using anion exchange to reduce the endotoxin level. After reducing the endotoxin level of the gelatin-salt solution, the low endotoxin gelatin-salt solution is desalted to remove the salt, thereby producing a low endotoxin gelatin solution.

Bone gelatin process

A process for the production of bone gelatin includes demineralization of bone using a demineralization solution of acid, wherein the bone is washed for a demineralized time in the demineralization solution to remove soft tissue. The demineralized bone is then pulverized to produce particles of the demineralized bone in a homogenized bone tissue. Lipids are then removed from the homogenized bone tissue using a lipid removal series of washing steps which may include washing the homogenized bone tissue in a series of solutions, including a lipid removal solution and an ethanol solution. Gelatin is then removed from the lipid removed bone tissue in a gelatin extraction process, wherein lipid removed bone tissue is placed in a pepsin solution followed by an extraction solution. The gelatin from the gelatin extracted bone tissue may then be separated and the bone gelatin may then be lyophilized.

The present invention relates to a method of producing gelatine, the method comprising the steps of: providing animal material containing collagen; cutting the animal material with at least one fluid cutting jet to form animal material sections; hydrolysing the collagen in the animal material sections to form gelatine; and isolating the gelatine. The invention also relates to a fluid jet cutting device and to the use of a fluid jet cutting device in the production of gelatine. The invention is particularly useful in the production of gelatine from pig skin and/or cow hides and/or fish skin.

Process for production of a soluble and insoluble collagen product from mammalian dermis tissue

A process for the production of a soluble collagen product and an insoluble collagen product from mammalian dermis tissue is described. The tissue may initially be processed to remove the epidermis and adipose tissue and then minced into small pieces. The process includes washing the minced dermis in an enzymatic solution, such as an amylase solution followed by homogenizing the amylased tissue. The soluble and insoluble collagen is then extracted from the homogenized tissue and subsequently separated into distinct soluble and insoluble fractions. The process produces collagen with high Dalton values that can subsequently be combined to produce a mixed composite collagen product. Also, the extracted collagen may be used as an integral composite collagen before separation.
