POLYMERIZABLE POLAR COMPOUND, LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT
Provided is a polar compound having high chemical stability, high capability of aligning liquid crystal molecules, high solubility in a liquid crystal composition, and a large voltage holding ratio when used in a liquid crystal display device. The compound is represented by formula (1):

Liquid-crystal composition
There is provided a liquid crystal composition which enables a significant reduction in crystallization temperature as compared with addition of a homolog while having a similar skeleton structure, which has an excellent compatibility, and which enables an increase in the absolute value of negative dielectric anisotropy (Δ∈). The liquid crystal composition contains two or more compounds which each have two to four ring structures between two side chains. At least one of the ring structures is a 2,3-difluorobenzene skeleton. The two side chains are bonded to different ring structures. The positions of the 2,3-difluorobenzene skeletons are different from each other, and the number of the ring structures are the same as each other.
LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION CONTAINING 2-METHYL-3,4,5-TRIFLUOROBENZENE LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOUND AND APPLICATION THEREOF
The present invention relates to the technical field of liquid crystal displays, and particularly relates to a liquid crystal composition containing a 2-methyl-3,4,5-trifluorobenzene liquid crystal compound and use thereof, wherein the liquid crystal composition of the present invention comprises, in percentages by weight, 1-50% of one or more compounds represented by general formula I and 10-70% of one or more compounds represented by general formula II, and may further comprise 0-30% of compounds represented by general formula III and/or 6-45% of one or more compounds represented by general formulas IV to XIII The liquid crystal composition provided by the present invention has a low rotational viscosity and a large elastic constant, is presented as having a shorter response time, and can significantly improve the display effect of a liquid crystal display when applied to TN, IPS and FFS mode displays.
Liquid-crystal optical modulation element
The liquid crystal light modulator includes a first substrate (10) and a second substrate (20) disposed between two polarizers, and a pair of electrode structures (24, 24). The substrates include homeotropic alignment films (12) and (22), and at least one of the substrates has a function of aligning C-directors of liquid crystal molecules along one direction. The one direction forms an azimuth angle in the range of 35 to 55 degrees with the direction of the electric field generated by the pair of electrode structures (24, 24). A liquid crystal composition layer (31) contains a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition having a chiral smectic C phase or a liquid crystal composition that has an achiral smectic C phase and negative dielectric anisotropy. Light transmittance is modulated by the electric field generated by the electrode structures (24, 24) changing the birefringence index of the liquid crystal composition layer (31).
Liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device
A liquid crystal composition and the use thereof are provided. The liquid crystal composition comprises 15-30% by weight of three or more compounds of general formula I; the general formula I must comprises at least two compounds of general formula I-1; wherein, by weight of the total amount of the liquid crystal composition, the total amount of the compounds of general formula I-1 is no lower than 10%, and the content of each of the compounds of general formula I-1 is no higher than 8%. The liquid crystal composition has appropriately high optical anisotropy, higher dielectric anisotropy, lower threshold voltage, suitable elastic constant, suitable temperature range of nematic phase, good reliability and heat stability, and good low-temperature intersolubility. ##STR00001##
Liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device
A liquid crystal compound comprising a specific compound having a positive dielectric anisotropy as the first component, and a specific compound having a low viscosity as a second component. Further, the liquid crystal compound may contain a specific compound having a positive dielectric anisotropy as the third component, a specific compound having a maximum temperature or a low viscosity as the fourth component, or a specific compound having a negative dielectric anisotropy as the fifth component.
LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
A liquid crystal composition and the use thereof are provided. The liquid crystal composition comprises 15-30% by weight of three or more compounds of general formula I; the general formula I must comprises at least two compounds of general formula I-1; wherein, by weight of the total amount of the liquid crystal composition, the total amount of the compounds of general formula I-1 is no lower than 10%, and the content of each of the compounds of general formula I-1 is no higher than 8%. The liquid crystal composition has appropriately high optical anisotropy, higher dielectric anisotropy, lower threshold voltage, suitable elastic constant, suitable temperature range of nematic phase, good reliability and heat stability, and good low-temperature intersolubility.

Liquid-crystalline medium
The invention relates to a liquid-crystalline medium comprising at least one compound of the formula I, ##STR00001## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the meanings indicated in Claim 1, and to the use thereof in electro-optical liquid-crystal displays.
