Liquid crystal display having improved wavelength dispersion characteristics
A multilayer optical retardation compensation film having at least one positive C-plate and at least one negative C-plate is used in an LCD device. The multilayer film may have a substantially flat wavelength dispersion curve, or the multilayer film combined with other layers in the LCD device may have a substantially flat wavelength dispersion curve. Polymer films for the positive C-plate may be identified according to their absorbance maxima at certain wavelength ranges.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL LIQUID CRYSTALLINE PHOTOREACTIVE POLYMERS FOR POLARIZATION HOLOGRAPHY
A multifunctional liquid crystalline photoreactive polymer in which at least some of the polymer side-chains have an ultraviolet photoreactive moiety and at least some of the polymer side-chains have a calamitic mesogenic moiety are provided. At least some of the polymer side-chains have a photo-curable moiety a thermal-curable moiety. In some embodiments, the polymer is in the form of a co-polymer. In some embodiments, the polymer is in the form of a ter-polymer. The polymer is used in applications that require stable birefringement films. Such films are produced from the polymer by subjecting the polymer to ultra-violet light to cause side-chain cross-linking thereby inducing anisotropy. The anisotropy is then amplified by exposing the polymer to an elevated temperature.

An object of the present invention is a liquid crystal composition which has excellent alignment properties, improves a surface state of an optically anisotropic layer to be formed, and improves adhesiveness with a polarizer, an optical film using the same, a polarizing plate, and an image display device. The liquid crystal composition according to the present invention is a liquid crystal composition containing a copolymer having a repeating unit represented by Formula (I) and a repeating unit represented by Formula (II), and a liquid crystal compound.

Polymerizable liquid crystal composition and optically anisotropic body, retardation film, and patterned retardation film using the same
There is provided a polymerizable liquid crystal composition that enables a film formed through application of the composition and exposure thereof to heat or active energy rays to have an excellent molecular alignment and reduced haze. There is also provided an optically anisotropic body that is produced by using such a polymerizable liquid crystal composition and that has a good transparency. In particular, the present invention provides a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable haze-reducing agent and a polymerizable liquid crystal compound. Furthermore, the present invention also provides an optically anisotropic body produced by using the polymerizable liquid crystal composition of the present invention. Using the polymerizable liquid crystal composition of the present invention enables production of an optically anisotropic body having a good transparency; hence, the polymerizable liquid crystal composition is usefully applied to optical materials used in, for example, retardation films.
POLYMERIZABLE COMPOSITION AND OPTICALLY ANISOTROPIC BODY USING SAME
The present invention provides a polymerizable liquid crystal composition capable of forming a uniform homeotropic alignment in producing a polymer through polymerization of the polymerizable liquid crystal composition. Further, the present invention provides a polymer obtained through polymerization of the polymerizable liquid crystal composition and having good alignment performance and high durability (retardation retention) with little cissing, and an optically anisotropic body using the polymer. Specifically, the present invention provides a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable liquid crystal compound represented by the general formula (II-1), one or more kinds of polymerizable liquid crystal compounds (II-2) having one polymerizable functional group and/or one or more kinds of polymerizable liquid crystal compounds having 2 or more polymerizable functional groups in the molecule and represented by the general formula (I-1).

The present disclosure provides a liquid crystal composition, a liquid crystal display device and its manufacturing method. The liquid crystal composition comprises a first composition and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer at a ratio by mass of the first composition to the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of 2:3 to 4:1, wherein the first composition comprises 15 to 40 parts by weight of a chiral cholesterol ester compound, 59 to 75 parts by weight of nematic phase liquid crystal, and 1 to 10 parts by weight of ferroferric oxide. The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal display panel, a first transparent electrode, a liquid crystal composition layer, and a second transparent electrode.
