A sealant material for sealing threaded pipe joints that is a multifilament or spun polyphenylene sulfide yarn and a joint sealing composition comprising a silicone oil or a natural oil with a smoke point of about 230° C. or higher. The polyphenylene sulfide yarn is coated with the joint sealant composition. The material forms an effective seal and is resistant even when used in systems in which it is exposed to temperatures in excess of 280° C. The material may be provided in a dispenser.

Use of a sealing material which is a multifilament or spun yarn coated with a joint sealing composition to seal a joint in a pipe system in which system a fluid having corrosion inhibitors such as diammonium dimolybdate or benzotriazole; and/or sludge removers; and/or an alcohol such as propane diol, or ethylene glycol; and/or a hydrocarbon such as diesel, including biodiesel, fuel oil, or hydraulic oil; and/or steam at a temperature of at least 180° C. and a pressure of at least 10 bar (1000 kPa); is to be passed through the sealed joint. It is surprising that the sealing materials of the invention can maintain a sealed joint despite exposure to such materials.

The sealant film has a seal layer consisting of a resin composition including the following (a) and (b), and the film satisfies the following (1) to (3). A sealant releasably seals a distal end of a tip of a tube containing a curable substance dispensable from the tip of the tube. The sealant has between about 20 N and about 60 N of penetration resistance force in a penetration resistance test, wherein the penetration resistance test comprises: (i) placing the sealant in a container at room temperature such that the sealant has a top surface defining a plane; (ii) attaching a conical probe to a force gage wherein the conical probe has a tip length of 7.5 mm, a diameter of 9 mm, and an overall length of 20 mm; (iii) moving the conical probe perpendicularly relative to the plane of top surface of the sealant; and (iv) inserting the conical probe into the sealant to an insertion depth of between 8 mm and 12 mm to generate the penetration resistance force.

Various embodiments disclosed relate to polysulfide or polythioether sealant composition including glycol organic acid esters. The sealant composition can include a first component including a liquid that is a polysulfide, a polythioether, a copolymer thereof, or a combination thereof. The sealant composition can also include a second component that includes one or more glycol di((C.sub.1-C.sub.20)hydrocarbyl)carboxylate esters, wherein at each occurrence the (C.sub.1-C.sub.20)hydrocarbyl is independently substituted or unsubstituted. The second component can also include an oxidizing agent.
