Use of a Hydrocarbyl-Substituted Salicylic Acid Detergent as an Inhibitor of Lead Corrosion
This invention relates to the use of a metallic or non-metallic detergent which is a hydrocarbyl-substituted salicylic acid or a derivative thereof in a non-aqueous lubricant composition as an inhibitor of lead corrosion associated with ashless, organic ester, anti-wear additives and/or friction modifiers.
Halogen-containing synthetic base oils, and preparation method and use thereof
The present invention provides a class of halogen-containing synthetic base oils, and preparation method and use thereof. The synthetic base oils have introduced with halogen, especially fluorine, wherein the dipole motion of the halogen groups results in dipole interaction between the dipoles of other components and the base oil molecules of dipole-dipole and dipole-induced halogen (especially fluorine), and the interaction force is stronger and more localized than the dispersion force between the molecules of pure hydrocarbon synthetic oils, and thus the performance of the base oils is directly affected. It solved the problem of oil solubility of pure hydrocarbon synthetic oils, and also improved the properties of oxidation resistance and thermal stability.
Processes for Producing Alkyl Salicylic Acids and Overbased Detergents Derived Therefrom
Alkyl salicylic acids, overbased detergents derived from alkyl salicylic acids, lubricating compositions including the alkyl salicylic acids and/or overbased detergents, and processes of making and using the same, are described.
LUBRICANT OIL COMPOSITION, DIESEL ENGINE WITH MOUNTED SUPERCHARGER, AND METHOD FOR USING LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION
A lubricating oil composition may include a base oil (A), succinimide (B) which has not been modified with boron, succinimide (C) modified with boron, a metallic detergent (D), and an antioxidant (E), wherein the ratio of the content of boron atoms derived from ingredient (C) to the content of nitrogen atoms derived from ingredients (B) and (C), B/N, is 0.30 or less by mass, the lubricating oil composition satisfying requirement (I) and/or requirement (II). Requirement (I): Ingredient (D) includes a metallic detergent (D1) having a base value less than 100 mgKOH/g. Requirement (II): Ingredient (E) includes an amine-based antioxidant (E1), the content of ingredient (E1) being 1.00 mass % or less.
Non-aqueous lubricant and fuel compositions comprising fatty acid esters of hydroxy-carboxylic acids, and uses thereof
The use as an anti-wear additive and/or friction modifier in a non-aqueous lubricant composition and/or in a fuel composition of at least one long chain fatty acid ester of a hydroxy carboxylic acid in which the long chain fatty acid has at least 4 carbon atoms and the ester is an oil-soluble ester of a mono- or poly-hydroxy carboxylic acid having 1 to 4 groups which are independently carboxylic acid groups or lower hydrocarbyl esters thereof and in which, when the hydroxy carboxylic acid is a mono-hydroxy carboxylic acid, the ester has a long chain fatty acid ester moiety of the hydroxy group of the hydroxy carboxylic acid and, when the hydroxy carboxylic acid is a poly-hydroxy carboxylic acid, the ester has independently long chain fatty acid ester moieties of one or two of the hydroxy groups of the poly-hydroxy carboxylic acid. Also, a non-aqueous lubricant composition and a fuel composition for an internal combustion engine which comprises at least one of said long chain fatty acid esters.
Estolide and lubricant compositions that contain ene and Diels Alder compounds
Provided herein are compositions containing at least one estolide compound and at least one ene and/or Diels Alder compound. In certain embodiments, the addition of at least one ene and/or Diels Alder compound to an estolide-containing composition may improve the cold temperature, viscometric, and/or anti-wear properties of the composition.
Charge control agent for fluid dynamic bearing motor lubricant
Embodiments disclosed herein generally relate to magnetic recording systems having a spindle motor and, more particularly, to an optimized lubricant for bearings within the spindle motor. A lubricant used in a fluid dynamic bearing motor has an antioxidant additive and a charge control agent dissolved in a diester base oil. The charge control agent is chemically attached to the same diacid reactant used in the diester lubricant base oil, and is prepared through an esterification reaction. The charge control agent is then dissolved in the lubricant base oil. The charge control agent is soluble in the lubricant, and is resistant to free radical oxidation. The charge control agent effectively controls the charge of the lubricant by creating electron donor/acceptor sites in the lubricant, facilitating an independent electronic pathway through the lubricant.
Lubricant additive composition, lubricating composition containing same and engine oil composition consisting of lubricating composition
A lubricating composition including: a base oil, a lubricant additive composition including, as a component (A), an organic molybdenum compound of the formula (1) described in the specification, and as a component (B), an amine compound of the formula (2) described in the specification, and a specific metal-based cleaner, wherein a content of the component (B) is 2.9 to 18.6 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of molybdenum atoms of the component (A), and a content of the metal-based cleaner is 0.1% to 10% by mass relative to a total amount of the lubricating composition, wherein the lubricating composition does not include tetraalkyl thiuram disulphide, and wherein the component (A) in terms of the amount of molybdenum atoms is 400 to 1200 ppm by mass relative to a total amount of the lubricating composition.
Liquid octylated phenyl-α-naphthylamine composition
