Lubricating oil composition for refrigerating machines
A lubricating oil composition for refrigerating machines contains a base oil and an additive in a form of a hydrocarbon compound having a biphenyl structure or a stilbene structure. When the present lubricating oil composition for refrigerating machines is used in refrigerating equipment such as an open-type automobile air-conditioner, an electric automobile air-conditioner, a gas heat pump, other air-conditioning equipment, a refrigerating machine, a vending machine, a showcase, a water-heating system and a refrigerating/heating system, it is possible to detect the leakage of a refrigerant with a long-lasting stability. Therefore, when an unsaturated chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant with a poor stability is used in the above-listed equipment, the present lubricating oil composition for refrigerating machines is significantly advantageous.
Lubricating oil additives
A lubricating oil composition comprising at least 50 percent by mass, based on the mass of the composition of an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 to 25 percent by mass, based on the mass of the composition of a polymer comprising units (a) and one or both units (b) and (c):
—N(COR.sup.1)(CH.sub.2).sub.x— (a)
—NH(CH.sub.2).sub.y— (b)
—N(CH.sub.2CH.sub.2-k(CH.sub.3).sub.kCOOR.sup.2)(CH.sub.2).sub.z (c) where the total number (n) of units (a), (b) and (c) is an integer between 4 and 500; wherein x, y and z are independently 2 or 3; wherein k is zero or 1. The polymer shows good solubility in the lubricating oil and provides friction modification. A method of synthesising a polymer is also disclosed.
Methods for reducing oxidation
A method for reducing the tendency of a hydrocarbon fluid to oxidise comprises combining an additive having a chemical structure comprising a 6-membered aromatic ring sharing two adjacent aromatic carbon atoms with a 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring, the 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring comprising a nitrogen atom directly bonded to one of the shared carbon atoms to form a secondary amine and an atom selected from oxygen or nitrogen directly bonded to the other shared carbon atom, the remaining atoms in the 6- or 7-membered heterocyclic ring being carbon with the hydrocarbon fluid. The additive may also be used for protecting a system in which a hydrocarbon fluid is used from the effects of oxidation.
Oxazoline modified dispersants
The present disclosure relates to oxazoline modified lubricant additives that have dispersant properties and lubricating oil compositions including such dispersant lubricant additives. The disclosure also relates to the use of lubricant compositions comprising the additives of the disclosure for improving the soot or sludge handling characteristics of an engine lubricant composition while providing robust and consistent frictional performance at the same time.
METHODS FOR REDUCING OXIDATION
A method for reducing the tendency of a hydrocarbon fluid to oxidise comprises combining an additive having a chemical structure comprising a 6-membered aromatic ring sharing two adjacent aromatic carbon atoms with a 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring, the 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring comprising a nitrogen atom directly bonded to one of the shared carbon atoms to form a secondary amine and an atom selected from oxygen or nitrogen directly bonded to the other shared carbon atom, the remaining atoms in the 6- or 7-membered heterocyclic ring being carbon with the hydrocarbon fluid. The additive may also be used for protecting a system in which a hydrocarbon fluid is used from the effects of oxidation.
Composition containing heterocyclic compounds and a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) a compound selected from the group consisting of: (i) an ester-containing heterocycle; (ii) an amide-containing heterocycle; and (iii) a pyrimidine, wherein the ester-containing heterocycle and the amide-containing heterocycle have a hydrocarbyl group containing 6 to 40 carbon atoms. The invention further provides for a method of supplying an internal combustion engine with the lubricating composition.

The invention further provides for a method of supplying an internal combustion engine with the lubricating composition.
