The apparatus includes a membrane comprising multiple surface features on a first side of the membrane for cell placement. The surface features comprising one or more compartments within which a cell can be located. The membrane includes a material that is at least partially permeable to gas. A second side of the membrane defines a gas region. The second side of the membrane is separated from the first side of the membrane by the membrane. The apparatus further includes a media region for receiving media. The compartments are configured to at least partially reduce media flow shear forces on one or more cells in the compartments. The surface features may be ridges, protrusions, fins, wells, and/or posts.

APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR CELL CULTURE

A bioreactor (1) for the culture of cells (C) comprising a stack of carriers (7) for cell (C) adherence and liquid medium (M) distribution. The carriers (7) are stacked so as to define levels (6) between adjacent carriers (7) for the flow of the liquid medium (M). Adjacent levels (6) are fluidly interconnected via open spaces (2) so that the liquid medium (M) can flow from one level (6) to an adjacent level (6). The open spaces (2) between a first and an adjacent second level (6′) do not overlap with the one or more open spaces (2) between the second level (6′) and an adjacent third level (6″). One or more of the carriers may also include an area adapted to prevent cell adhesion or growth, thereby allowing for the viewing of cell growth on adjacent carriers from a vantage point external to the bioreactor. Related methods are also disclosed.

The upper side of the reaction chamber monomer is a reaction chamber body, and the lower part is a material receiving trolley. The top of the reaction chamber body is sealed by a chamber cover. A side wall is pasted with an electric heating plate and a thermal insulation cotton. A stirring paddle is arranged inside. An air inlet and an air outlet are respectively provided on a front and a rear wall. A discharging mechanism is located below. The electrical control cabinet separately controls the reaction conditions of each reaction chamber monomer. The present invention further relates to a use method thereof, which can realize the biodegradability evaluation in such three aspects as material degradation rate, disintegration rate and ecological non-toxicity test.

MULTILAYER CULTURE VESSEL

The purpose of the present invention is to suppress variation in time for cells to be immersed in a peeling liquid when the cells are peeled from culture layers. A multilayer culture vessel 1 has an internal space that is divided by a boundary surface 10 into a culture space 11 on one side and a buffer space 12 on the other side in a direction parallel to a bottom plate 2. The multilayer culture vessel 1 includes at least one intermediate plate 5 that extends in the culture space along the direction parallel to the bottom plate 2 and divides the culture space 11 into a plurality of culture layers 21, wall portions 13 that respectively extend from the bottom plate 2 and the at least one intermediate plate 5 toward a top plate 3 at the boundary surface 10, communication portions 14 that bring the buffer space 12 into communication with the culture layers 21, and a liquid supply/drainage port 6 that is formed in the top plate 3 at a location facing the buffer space 12.

In preferred embodiments, the subject invention provides two-vessel fermentation systems for producing microbe-based products comprising fungal mycelia and/or spores, and/or bacterial endospores, wherein the systems comprise both a submerged fermentation vessel and a solid state fermentation (SSF) vessel. Advantageously use of the two phases improves the efficiency of producing microorganisms by catering to the different requirements for biomass and/or vegetative cell accumulation as well as the requirements for mycelial growth and/or sporulation.

Lithographic masking for spatially localized biochemical stimulus delivery

A method of lithographic masking for spatially localized biochemical stimulus delivery, comprising the steps of providing a group of cells on a substrate, coating a layer of gelatin on a portion of the cells, creating a mask layer on a portion of the layer of gelatin on a portion of the cells, and creating an area of masked cells and an area of unmasked cells. Further, the method can include delivering a biochemical signal to the area of unmasked cells, removing the mask layer, and allowing the cells with the biochemical signal and the cells without the biochemical signal to interact freely.
