The inventions described herein provide methods and systems for recycling lithium iron phosphate batteries, including: adding an oxidizing agent to a recycling stream of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO.sub.4) batteries to form a leach solution; filtering the leach solution to remove a residue and obtain a lithium rich solution; modifying pH of the lithium rich solution for filtering impurities and obtaining a purified Li solution; and adding a precipitant to the purified Li solution thereby precipitating a lithium compound.
Recycling Li-ion batteries using green chemicals and processes
A process for extracting, recovering and recycling metals and materials from spent lithium ion batteries (LIB) that comprises the contacting battery waste products with a deep eutectic solvent, and leaching the metal from the battery waste product and extracting the metal into the deep eutectic solvent with heat and agitation. After the leaching and extracting, the process further includes recovering the dissolved metals ions from the deep eutectic solvent solution, followed by a step of regeneration of cathode materials.
Recycling of cobalt and nickel from lithium-ion batteries
A process for recovering a nickel cobalt manganese hydroxide from recycled lithium-ion battery (LIB) material such as black mass, black powder, filter cake, or the like. The recycled LIB material is mixed with water and either sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid at a pH less than 2. Cobalt, nickel, and manganese oxides from the recycled lithium-ion battery material dissolve into the acidic water with the reductive assistance of gaseous sulfur dioxide. Anode carbon is filtered from the acidic water, leaving the dissolved cobalt, nickel, and manganese oxides in a filtrate. The filtrate is mixed with aqueous sodium hydroxide at a pH greater than 8. Nickel cobalt manganese hydroxide precipitates from the filtrate. The nickel cobalt manganese hydroxide is filtered from the filtrate and dried. The filtrate may be treated ammonium fluoride or ammonium bifluoride to precipitate lithium fluoride from the filtrate. The composition ratio of nickel to cobalt to manganese in the acid filtrate may be adjusted to a desired ratio. The anode carbon is recovered and purified for reuse.
Method for the treatment of iron-containing sludge
The present invention provides a method for the treatment of sludge containing iron and between 4.5% to 12% by weight of zinc. This method includes a leaching step wherein leaching agents include hydrochloric acid and chlorate, and wherein the pH of the leachate directly resulting from this leaching step is set at a value below 1.5. A recycling method and treatment installation are also provided.
METHOD FOR RECYCLING IRON AND ALUMINUM IN NICKEL-COBALT-MANGANESE SOLUTION
The present invention relates to a method for recycling iron and aluminum in a nickel-cobalt-manganese solution. The method comprises the following steps: leaching a battery powder and removing copper therefrom to obtain a copper-removed solution, and adjusting the pH value in stages to remove iron and aluminum, so as to obtain a goethite slag and an iron-aluminum slag separately; mixing the iron-aluminum slag with an alkali liquor, and heating and stirring same to obtain an aluminum-containing solution and alkaline slag; and heating and stirring the aluminum-containing solution, introducing carbon dioxide thereto and controlling the pH value to obtain aluminum hydroxide and an aluminum-removed solution.
Process For Removing Impurities In The Recycling Of Lithium-Ion Batteries
A method of treating a leaching solution derived from a black mass from spent lithium-ion batteries comprising setting pH of the leaching solution to about pH 1.2 to 2.5, adding iron powder to induce copper cementation, adding lime after copper cementation, and after adding lime, transiting pH of the leaching solution to about pH 6 to extract calcium fluoride, titanium hydroxide, aluminium hydroxide, iron hydroxide, and iron phosphate. A black mass recycling system comprising an impurity removal reactor configured to receive a sodium hydroxide feed, an iron powder feed, and a lime feed.

A method for recovering lithium from lithium ion battery scrap according to this invention comprises subjecting lithium ion battery scrap to a calcination step, a crushing step, and a sieving step sequentially carried out, wherein the method comprises, between the calcination step and the crushing step, between the crushing step and the sieving step, or after the sieving step, a lithium dissolution step of bringing the lithium ion battery scrap into contact with water and dissolving lithium contained in the lithium ion battery scrap in the water to obtain a lithium-dissolved solution; a lithium concentration step of solvent-extracting lithium ions contained in the lithium-dissolved solution and stripping them to concentrate the lithium ions to obtain a lithium concentrate; and a carbonation step of carbonating the lithium ions in the lithium concentrate to obtain lithium carbonate.
