HARD METALS AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

The invention concerns the field of hardmetal materials and relates to hardmetals such as those which can, for example, be used as cutting material for tools. The object of the present invention is to specify hardmetals which include a novel concept for the structural composition of the hardmetals. The object is attained with hardmetals which are at least made up of hard phases in particle form and metal binder arranged therebetween, wherein a high-entropy hard phase (HEH) is composed of at least four metals (Me) of the 4th and/or 5th and/or 6th subgroup of the PTE in the form of a solid solution of carbides, nitrides, carbonitrides, oxycarbides, and/or oxycarbonitrides of the metals, wherein the respective amounts of the metals in the HEH are essentially equal.

Metallic matrix composites synthesized with uniform in situ formed reinforcement
11555230 · 2023-01-17 · ·

Metallic matrix composites are synthesized by mixing a first reactant, a second reactant and a nucleator compound to obtain a reaction mixture, and heating the reaction mixture to an auto-activation temperature to initiate a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis reaction between the first and second reactants. The metallic matrix composite can include a metallic matrix and an in situ formed reinforcement. The reinforcement can be formed of discrete particles substantially uniformly dispersed within the metallic matrix. Each of the particles can have a reinforcement constituent disposed about a core formed of the nucleator compound.

COLD SPRAY PROCESS USING TREATED METAL POWDER

A method of applying a metal comprising titanium to a substrate is disclosed. The method comprises nitriding the surface of metal powder particles comprising titanium by contacting the particles with a first gas comprising nitrogen in a fluidized bed reactor, and depositing the metal powder particles onto the substrate with cold spray deposition using a second gas.

Superhard constructions and methods of making same

A polycrystalline super hard construction has a first region having a body of thermally stable polycrystalline super hard material having a plurality of intergrown grains of super hard material; a second region forming a substrate having a hard phase and a binder phase; and a third region interposed between the first and second regions. The third region includes a composite material having a first phase comprising a plurality of non-intergrown grains of super hard material, and a matrix material. A fourth region interposed between the second and third region has a major proportion having one or more components of the binder material of the second region, and one or more reaction products between the binder material of the second region and one or more components of the third region.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A MULTI-MATERIAL PART BY ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING, USING THE TECHNIQUE OF POWDER BED SELECTIVE LASER MELTING OR SELECTIVE LASER SINTERING

A process for manufacturing a multi-material part by additive manufacturing, includes the following steps: a) a step of providing a pre-treated metal powder comprising grains and an oxidized and porous layer on a surface of the grains; b) a selective laser powder-bed fusion step comprising implementation of steps i) and ii) as follows: i) a step of forming a layer from the pre-treated metal powder; ii) a step of melting by laser the layer, the melting step being carried out under a reactive atmosphere and comprising changing parameters of application of the laser so that at least a first region of the layer is converted so as to lower the electrical conductivity thereof, thus forming a dielectric, and so that at least a second region of the layer is densified without converting it, the at least a first region being formed when the parameters of application of the laser allow a first energy density to be applied to the first region and/or the laser beam to be kept for a first dwell time on the first region, the at least a second region being formed when the parameters of application of the laser allow a second energy density to be applied to the second region and/or the laser beam to be kept for a second dwell time on the second region, and the first energy density being higher than the second energy density and/or the first dwell time being longer than the second dwell time. A part obtained using the process is also provided.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING FUNCTIONALLY GRADED COMPOSITE MATERIAL FOR PCB HAVING HIGH HEAT DISSIPATING PROPERTIES AND ELECTRIC INSULATING PROPERTIES, AND FUNCTIONALLY GRADED COMPOSITE MATERIAL MANUFACTURED THEREBY

A method for manufacturing a functionally graded composite material for a printed circuit board (PCB) is proposed. The method may include preparing two or more types of mixed powders with different contents of polymer or ceramic powder, each mixed powder comprising (i) a metal powder comprising a powder made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy and a powder of magnesium and (ii) the polymer or ceramic powder. The method may also include laminating the two or more types of mixed powders to form a functionally graded laminate in which a ratio of the content of the polymer or ceramic powder to the content of the metal powder in each of layers stacked in sequence from bottom to the top of the laminate differs. The method may further include preparing a functionally graded composite material by sintering the functionally graded laminate by pressureless sintering or spark plasma sintering.
