A laundry treating appliance and method of initiating a sanitization cycle in a laundry treating appliance includes sensing at least one of a presence of an article within a sanitizing compartment, an identification of the article within the sanitizing compartment, or a chemical property within the sanitizing compartment, and determining, in a controller, a need for initiating a sanitization cycle.

According to an embodiment, the laundry machine may include a tub, a drum rotatably arranged in the tub to accommodate an object and provided with a through hole on an outer circumferential surface, an induction heater provided to the tub and configured to heat a heating surface of the drum opposing the induction heater on an outer surface of the drum, a motor driven to rotate the drum, a spray nozzle configured to spray water onto the heating surface of the drum opposing and heated by the induction heater to generate steam, and a processor configured to rotate the drum such that the steam is introduced into the drum through the through hole of the drum in a space between the tub and the drum.

In commercial laundries, textile items are treated in batches. This applies in particular to washing in continuous washing machines and to drying in tumble driers. Such a batch-wise treatment has to be carried out such that the treatment does justice to all textile items of the batch. The textile items are mixed in the batch-wise treatment, making it necessary to sort the batches again after the treatment, namely, the textile items have to be identified again after the treatment. The invention provides that the textile items are individually treated in succession, resulting in an individual treatment of each textile item being implemented. Damage to the textile items or wrong treatments are thus avoided. The textile items are treated while maintaining the sequence of the textile items, on account of which the textile items are not mixed and do not have to be sorted again at the end of the treatment.

Disclosed are a washing machine and a method for controlling same. A washing machine according to the present invention comprises: a drum for accommodating laundry; an additive input unit which inputs an additive into the drum so as to coat the laundry with fragrant particles; a temperature adjustment unit which generates a hot wind and a cold wind to adjust the temperature inside the drum; and a control unit that controls the temperature adjustment unit so that the temperature inside the drum is set to a first threshold temperature, controls the additive input unit so that the additive is input into the drum when the temperature is set to the first threshold temperature, and controls the temperature adjustment unit so that the temperature inside the drum is set to a second threshold temperature lower than the first threshold temperature when the additive is input into the drum. Accordingly, the washing machine can provide the same effect as a piece of laundry being washed in a normal washing cycle when laundry is washed through a refresh cycle.
