In a household cleaning appliance configured to execute a cleaning cycle on an article, having a non-bulk dispensing system that stores a single dose of treating chemistry that the dispensing system dispenses to the treating chamber in total as part of the execution of the cleaning cycle, the method includes adding bulk dispensing functionality to the non-bulk dispensing system for operating the dispensing system as a bulk dispensing system.

A method of delivering a flexible water-soluble unit dose article to the drum or drawer of a fabric washing machine or to an automatic ware washing machine, comprising the steps of; a. obtaining a unit dose article in a container, wherein the container is configured to allow one unit dose article to be ejected from the container at a time; b. positioning the container near the drawer, drum or other reception point; c. ejecting the unit dose article from the container directly in the drum, drawer or other reception point; d. removing the container from the position near the drawer, drum or other reception point; e. initiating the wash operation of the fabric washing machine or automatic ware washing machine.

A dosing unit (100) for use in an automatic dosing system (20) of a water-bearing household appliance (1), for automatically dosing a dosing amount (122) of a solid detergent, the dosing unit (100) comprising a dosing cartridge (110) for storing a bulk (112) of the solid detergent and a dosing device (120) for separating the dosing amount (122) from the bulk (112) and releasing the separated dosing amount (122) by linearly displacing a sliding element (124) from a separating position to a release position, wherein the dosing device (120) includes a dosing channel (126), wherein, when the sliding element (124) is in the separating position, the dosing channel (126) is configured for receiving at least the dosing amount (122) from the bulk (112) and intermediately storing the dosing amount (122) in a pre-dosing position, and, when the sliding element (124) is in the release position, the dosing device (120) is configured for releasing the dosing amount (122) intermediately stored in the pre-dosing position.

A washing appliance or additive dispensing assembly, as provided herein, may include a dispenser, a water intake, and a bulk tank. The dispenser may include a compartment to receive an additive pod. The dispenser may define a nozzle above the wash chamber to direct a wash fluid to a wash chamber. The water intake may be mounted to the dispenser in upstream fluid communication with the compartment to direct a water flow to the additive pod. The bulk tank may be spaced apart from the dispenser within a washing appliance. The bulk tank may define a reservoir in upstream fluid communication with the compartment to direct an additive flow thereto. The bulk tank may be attached to the dispenser in fluid parallel to the water intake.

A washing machine appliance, as provided herein, may include a cabinet, a tub, a basket, and a fluid additive dispenser. The fluid additive dispenser may include a housing and a dispenser drawer. The housing may extend between an open front end and a closed rear end. The housing may be disposed within the cabinet. The dispenser drawer may be selectively received in the housing above the basket. The dispenser drawer may extend from a forward end proximate to the rotation axis to a rearward end distal to the rotation axis. The housing may extend between an open front end and a closed rear end. The housing may be disposed within the cabinet. The dispenser drawer may be selectively received in the housing above the basket. A laundry treating appliance for treating laundry according to an automatic cycle of operation includes a cabinet defining an interior. A treating chamber is located within the interior. A dispenser is fluidly coupled to the treating chamber. The dispenser includes first and second drawers slidable along a slide path relative to the cabinet between opened and closed positions and having one or more treating chemistry chambers.

A dispensing apparatus for an appliance includes a housing assembly which defines a loading chamber and a dispensing chamber. The dispensing chamber is separate from the loading chamber within the housing assembly. The dispensing apparatus includes a corkscrew coil rotatably mounted in the loading chamber of the housing. A motor is coupled to the corkscrew coil. Additionally, there is a first door positioned at a first opening defined by the housing assembly at the loading chamber. The first door is configured to selectively open and close the first opening. A second door positioned at a second opening is defined by the housing assembly at the chute. The second door is configured to selectively open and close the second opening.
