Continuous method for producing a thermally stabilized multifilament thread, multifilament thread, and fiber

The invention relates to a method for thermally stabilizing melt-spun PAN precursors. For this purpose, the invention provides a continuous method for producing a thermally stabilized multifilament thread made of a meltable copolymer of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), wherein a pre-stabilized multifilament thread is thermally stabilized and in the process at least temporarily stretched. The invention additionally relates to a thermally stabilized multifilament thread which can be obtained according to a corresponding method and to a carbon fiber which is made of the correspondingly thermally stabilized multifilament thread.

A method and product for creating a customizable fabric for specific end-use composites is provided. This method includes creating a three-dimensional matrix on woven fabrics, such as glass or carbon fiber fabrics via the addition of nanoparticles and a coupling agent; and, attaching a functional group compatible to specific resins dependent upon end use. The resulting product is a resin-free fabric with specific functional groups attached, ready to receive a particular polymer resin. Alternatively, the process may continue through to the addition of a polymer resin, resulting in a completed composite product.

SUNLIGHT REFLECTING MATERIALS AND METHODS OF FABRICATION

Disclosed are nanostructured materials that reflect light in selected spectra incorporated in dark colored textiles or substrates. In one aspect, a light reflecting material includes a textile exhibiting a dark color and formed of a plurality of fibers, and nanostructures arranged on the fibers and formed of a plurality of nanoparticles, the nanostructures having a dimension size of substantially less than ½of a visible light wavelength, in which the nanostructures reflect light from the textile or substrate in at least one of infrared, near-infrared, or red visible light spectra.
