An emulsified liquid composition is disclosed comprising a hydrophobic phase, an emulsifying composition of a protonated amide and a protonated amine having defined carbon to nitrogen atom molar ratios and water. The compositions optionally comprise at least one of a defoamer, a coalescent agent, a preservative, a co-emulsifier, chain extender, crosslinker and a rheology modifier. The compositions are useful for application to induce hydrophobicity to inorganic, organic or fiber based materials without undesirable backwetting or re-wetting effects.

Coated fiber and method

A coated fiber for polymer reinforcement is disclosed. The coated fiber comprises a fiber and a coating disposed about said fiber. The fiber has a denier of from about 250 to about 3,000. The coating comprises a branched polyethylene imine. The fiber is present in the coated fiber in an amount of from about 80 to about 99.8 percent by weight and the coating is present in the coated fiber in an amount of from about 0.2 to about 20 percent by weight, with percent by weight based on the total weight of the coated fiber. A method of producing the coated fiber is also disclosed.

Graphene-impregnated microfiber fabrics and methods for producing such fabrics are disclosed. In one example, a method of producing a graphene-impregnated microfiber fabric comprises providing a microfiber substrate comprising polymer fibers. Graphene is mixed into a polymer-based dispersion to create a graphene-impregnated polymer-based dispersion. The graphene-impregnated microfiber fabric is formed by immersing the microfiber substrate in the graphene-impregnated polymer-based dispersion to coat the polymer fibers of the substrate with the graphene and the polymer of the polymer-based dispersion. The fabric is removed from the dispersion and dried.

In one embodiment, the antimicrobial polymer resin comprises a polymer having less than 2500 ppm of zinc dispersed within the polymer, less than 1000 ppm of phosphorus, wherein the weight ratio of zinc to phosphorus is at least 1.3:1 or less than 0.64:1.
