Apparatus and method for abrading a composite material
Abrading apparatus and methods for treating opposing web surfaces of an elongate part include engaging the surfaces with first and second abrasion devices coupled to a frame. A drive assembly advances the frame along the part while the abrasion devices are operated to treat the surfaces. A guard assembly is coupled to the frame and includes first and second guards positioned to block portions of the contact areas of the first and second abrasion devices.

ENHANCED RAIL GRINDING SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF
Systems and methods for a first rail grinding machine and a second rail grinding machine can be used to enhance specialized rail grinding. A first rail grinding machine can detect, process, and communicate a portion of track rail needing specialized grinding to a second rail grinding machine that can process and display a detected portion of rail requiring specialized rail grinding and display the portion of rail as a virtual image to an operator. A displayable image allows an operator to perform specialty rail grinding without the need to be physically present at the location for specialized rail grinding.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PREDICTING WEAR IN A RAIL SYSTEM
A system and method is disclosed for predicting and comparing wear scenarios in a rail system. The method can include generating and running a contact model of the interaction between a rail and a train car to produce a simulated loading on the rail for a predetermined time period; generating and running a wear model based on the material properties and/or friction modifier properties of the rail using the simulated loading to produce a simulated wear profile of the rail for the predetermined time period; obtaining a grinding profile to be performed on the rail during the predetermined time period; and generating an updated rail profile by modifying the rail profile by the simulated wear profile and the grinding profile. The method can predict and compare crack growth over time, and provide a financial model and comparison of costs and benefits for different maintenance protocols for the rail system.

RAIL GRINDING MACHINE FOR GRINDING RAILS OF A TRACK
A rail grinding machine for grinding rails of a track has a machine frame, on which guide rollers for manual movement of the rail grinding machine in a longitudinal direction are mounted. By use of a cross slide, which is mounted on the machine frame, a grinding unit can be moved in a transverse direction. The cross slide contains a closed cross slide frame, which extends in the longitudinal direction and the transverse direction. The closed cross slide frame enables a simple and stable construction of the rail grinding machine and flexible adjustability of the grinding unit.

PROCESSING MACHINE AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING A RAIL TRACK
A processing machine for processing a rail track has a power supply unit for providing power and a processing unit which is able to be operated by the power provided by the power supply unit. The power supply unit and the processing unit are configured so as to be separate from one another. On account thereof, the processing unit is able to be operated in a spatially separated manner from the power supply unit, on account of which a user-friendly, flexible and safe processing of the rail track is enabled.
