A JOINTLESS CONCRETE COMPOSITE PAVEMENT

A pavement system that avoids the need for traditional contraction joints regardless of dimension of the pavement. The concrete composite pavement, comprises (i) a gap-graded concrete first layer; (ii) a flexural-hardening fiber reinforced mortar second layer, wherein the gap-graded concrete comprises cement, water and coarse aggregate, the flexural-hardening fiber reinforced mortar comprises cement; water, fine aggregate with a maximum particle size; fiber reinforcement comprising of synthetic and/or metal fibers; wherein the total thickness of the composite pavement is selected depending on the required maximum service point load, using the following formula H=(F/100).sup.0.5×100 mm, where H is the total thickness of the composite pavement and F is maximum service point load; wherein the ratio of the thickness of flexural-hardening fiber reinforced mortar second layer to the total thickness of the composite pavement is within the range of 1:5 to 2:5.

Described is a method of manufacturing a binder and the use of the binder to manufacture a roading mixture through mixing with aggregate, or a composite plastic product through the mixture of binder with particulate matter and/or fibre. The binder comprises mixing a plastic with two or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers in a mixing tank. The two or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers may have different homopolymer glass transition temperatures (TO wherein a first monomer structural unit has a homopolymer T.sub.g of greater than 80° C. and a second monomer having a homopolymer T.sub.g of less than 80° C. The plastic may be selected from a plastic comprising a styrene homopolymer, a styrene copolymer, a copolymer of an alkene and vinyl acetate, acrylic polymer and nylon based polymers or co-polymers, polyester-based thermoplastic polymer resin, propylene-based thermoplastic polymer and homo-polymer of an alkene or combination thereof.

IMPROVED ASPHALT MATERIAL

Asphalt product made from or containing Z1) from 90 wt % to 98 wt % of mineral aggregate; and Z2) from 2 wt % to 10 wt % of a bitumen composition made from or containing T1) from 99 wt % to 75 wt % of bitumen, and T2) from 1 wt % to 25 wt % of a polymer composition made from or containing A) 5-35% by weight of a propylene homopolymer; B) 20-50% by weight of an ethylene homopolymer; and C) 30-60% by weight of a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and 1-butene derived units.
