The vegetated sound attenuating structure is positioned in a vertical array upwardly from the level surface so that both sides of the vegetated sound attenuating structure are visible. Exposed areas of soil visible between successive layers of concrete stretchers have suitable sound attenuating vegetation growing therefrom. Irrigation means, which may be powered by solar panels, provides moisture for the growing of the sound attenuating vegetation. Seed containing tiles, panels or fabric may be used in contact with the soil to promote growth of vegetation.
