In the above embodiment, the second leg distal end may be shaped to directly enter the slot, the distal end being aligned in a direction parallel and offset relative to the longitudinal cable axis. An article for securing a line to an external surface, such as a fence post, includes a spiral member having a first end and a second end. The first end is adapted to be secured to the external surface. The spiral member has a curved portion extending from the first end. The curved portion has an exterior surface. The second end has an outer surface that overlies in spaced relation the exterior surface of the curved portion. The space between the exterior surface of the curved portion and the outer surface of the second end having a distance that is greater than a diameter or thickness of the line.
