Computing device security cable

A security cable can include a restraining cable and a lock unit attached to the restraining cable. The lock unit can be configured to removably fasten to a computing device. The lock unit can be further configured to switch the security cable between a first configuration and a second configuration. In the first configuration, the lock unit can be fastened to the computing device and can place the computing device in an inactive state. In the second configuration, the lock unit can be removable from the computing device and may not place the computing device in the inactive state.

CABLE-LOCK UNIT PRESENCE IN COMPUTING SYSTEMS

Examples of a computing system having a lock port for a cable-lock unit are described. In an example, a computing system includes a control unit, a receptacle electrically coupled to the control unit, a lock port to receive a cable-lock unit to lock the computing system at a location, a lock engagement member, and a plug coupled to the lock engagement member. The lock engagement member and the plug are to translate and form an electrical connection between the plug and the receptacle in response to receiving the cable-lock unit in the lock port. The control unit is to determine presence of the cable-lock unit in the lock port in response to formation of the electrical connection between the plug and the receptacle.

Management of securable computing resources

A system is provided and includes a securable resource, a locking element configured to assume a locked condition in which the securable resource is locked and an unlocked condition in which the securable resource is unlocked and a controller. The controller is receptive of an instruction to authorize users to unlock the securable resource and is configured to perform operating system (OS) level authentication of the users and OS level control of the locking element in accordance with the instruction to authorize users and the OS level authentication.
