Lock pin rotational position setting key and method of use
09719275 · 2017-08-01 ·

A pin setting key for setting rotational orientations of pins of a lock. The key includes a bow portion and a blade portion for inserting into a keyway. The blade portion has a longitudinal axis and a bow end and a tip end, with a plurality of bitting positions located between the bow and tip ends. Each of the bitting positions corresponds to one of the pins of the plug such that insertion of the blade portion into the keyway aligns the bitting position with one of the pins. Each bitting position includes at least one bitting surface configured to rotate a pin when the contact surface of the pin contacts the bitting surface. Each bitting surface is offset from a central location of the respective bitting position. Each bitting surface has an axis extending generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the blade.

Flat-bladed key

A cylinder lock with a rotating tumbler pin, a sidebar, and a slider has a keyway with a ward projection into the center of the bitting area of a key blade received by the keyway. The tip of each rotating tumbler pin seats on the bitting surfaces remaining to the sides of this center ward of the key, and the tumbler pins that are engaged by the bitting on the side of the key blade do not seat on more than half of the width of the blade. Half the pin width is removed from each tumbler pin near the tip thereof. The key has a bitted section at which one or more bittings are formed and a non-bitted section bitting that is devoid of bitting. The bittings extend at a constant depth to an edge of the key blade.

KEY AND KEY BLANKS OPERABLE IN VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY ORIENTED KEYWAYS

A key or key blank includes a key blade having a first edge, a second edge, and first and second opposed sides. The first edge has one or more edge bittings to elevate and/or rotate one or more tumbler pins of a lock with a vertically-oriented keyway, and one of the opposed sides has one or more side bittings to elevate and/or rotate one or more tumbler pins of a lock with a horizontally-oriented keyway. Side warding surfaces on the key blank are shaped and positioned to minimize the interference of peaks between the skewed bitting cuts on the key. A lock has a keyway configured for the key having edge bittings to elevate and/or rotate one or more tumbler pins of a vertical lock and side bittings to elevate and/or rotate one or more tumbler pins of a horizontal lock.

Provided is a key lock operable for locking and unlocking a latch control mechanism. The key lock includes a key collar with a front face, an outer cylindrical surface, and a longitudinally extending key slot. A center collar is concentrically disposed about the key collar such that an inner cylindrical surface of the center collar is fit to and rotatable on the outer cylindrical surface of the key collar. A series of cylindrical rotating pins are disposed in the center collar, each rotating pin having a notch with a key ID surface configured to engage one of a corresponding series of ID cut surfaces of a key when the key is inserted in the key slot and rotated to a key verification position, thereby rotationally orienting each pin at a respective ID position.

Lock and key therefor

A lock cylinder having a barrel and a lock housing, the barrel having a locking cam pivotally mounted therein, the locking cam including at least one recess on an outer periphery thereof, a housing recess formed on an inner wall of the lock housing, a locking member that, in a locking position, is positioned at least partly in the housing recess formed on the inner wall of the lock housing, the at least one recess on the locking cam including a first recess on the locking cam, the first recess being sized to enable the locking member to move out of the housing groove, the barrel having a key slot for receiving a key, the key including a projection for causing the locking cam to rotate to bring the first recess on the locking cam adjacent to or into alignment with the locking member such that the locking member moves out of the housing recess and into the first recess of the locking cam and barrel slot to thereby enable rotation of the barrel in the lock housing.

A cylinder lock unit includes a housing having an upper part and a lower part that includes a cylindrical bore accommodating a rotatable key plug. A back region of the key plug has a minimum length of 50% of a total length of the key plug with an adjoining front region having a maximum length of 50% of the total length. The front region accommodates at least one side locking mechanism confined entirely within the front region of the key plug that includes a longitudinal row of at least two coded side locking tumblers each interacting with the lower part of the housing wherein each side locking mechanism is movable independently of each other with at least three different code positions for each coded side locking tumbler and a plurality of different code combinations for the at least two coded side locking tumblers in each of the longitudinal row.

Cylinder lock and key combination providing extra code combinations

A lock and key combination providing extra code combinations. The lock has a housing and a cylindrical key plug with a keyway and at least side locking tumbler. The side locking tumbler has, at its rear side, a tongue which will fit into an associated recess in a side bar. The outer surface of the tongue is shaped as a groove between two vertical edge portions. One of these edge portions will make contact with the sidebar, adjacent to an entrance opening of the recess in the sidebar and thereby stop the tongue from entering into the rectangular recess if the side locking tumbler is rotationally misaligned. Because of this, it is possible to design the cylinder lock with a large number of predetermined code positions for each side locking tumbler. An associated key with a key blade having a wave-like side code pattern, will have, for each side locking tumbler, a selected one of a large number of predetermined different code positions.
