Aerogel Glazing Adhesion and IG Unit Technology
20230050347 · 2023-02-16 ·

The invention provides an IG unit that includes two glass sheets and an aerogel sheet located between the two glass sheets. The aerogel sheet is adhered to an interior surface of one of the two glass sheets by an adhesive, such that a face of the aerogel sheet is carried alongside the interior surface and has a portion that is devoid of the adhesive. In some cases, the adhesive is outside a vision area of the unit. In some cases, the adhesive securing the aerogel sheet to the interior surface is in contact with the first face of the aerogel sheet, and the adhesive contacts less than 10% of the first face of the aerogel sheet. Furthermore, some embodiments provide a glazing assembly that includes a frame and an IG unit mounted in the frame such that a vision area of the glazing assembly is located inwardly of the frame.

METHODS OF TRANSFERRING PILLARS FROM PILLAR DELIVERY FILMS

Pillar delivery films for vacuum insulated glass units are disclosed. The delivery films include a support film or pocket tape, a sacrificial material on the support film, and a plurality of pillars. The pillars are at least partially embedded in the sacrificial material or formed within sacrificial material molds, and the sacrificial material is capable of being removed while leaving the pillars substantially intact. Methods of transferring pillars to a substrate using the pillar delivery films are disclosed. In order to make an insulated glass unit, the delivery films are laminated to a receptor such as a glass pane, and the support film and sacrificial material are removed to leave the pillars remaining on the glass.

Electro-polymeric shade for use at elevated temperature and/or methods of making the same

Certain example embodiments relate to electric, potentially-driven shades usable with insulating glass (IG) units, IG units including such shades, and/or associated methods. In such a unit, a dynamic shade is located between the substrates defining the IG unit, and is movable between retracted and extended positions. The dynamic shade includes on-glass layers including a transparent conductor and an insulator or dielectric film, as well as a shutter. The shutter includes a resilient polymer, a conductor, and optional ink. Holes, invisible to the naked eye, may be formed in the polymer. Those holes may be sized, shaped, and arranged to promote summertime solar energy reflection and wintertime solar energy transmission. The conductor may be transparent or opaque. When the conductor is reflective, overcoat layers may be provided to help reduce internal reflection. The polymer may be capable of surviving high-temperature environments and may be colored in some instances.

A flexible spacer for an insulated translucent panel assembly. The flexible spacer includes a flexible thermoset extrudate formed from a two component flowable polymeric formulation and being a flowable mixture. One component carries a desiccant powder, and the other component is a catalyst for curing the extrudate. The flowable mixture is directly cast on to a vapor barrier web. The vapor barrier web includes a length and a width, the length being greater than the width. The vapor barrier web includes a corrugated sheet of material having a plurality of corrugations oriented generally orthogonal to the length of the vapor barrier web.

Compressible pillar for a vacuum insulated glazing unit

A compressible pillar for the preparation of a vacuum insulated glazing (VIG) unit, having a longitudinal extent in the pre-compressed state and including a deformable part having an open structure, which open structure will at least partially collapse when the pillar is subject to a compression force acting in the longitudinal direction of the pillar, the compression force being of at least one value selected within the range of 60 N to 320 N, the pillar will exhibit a partly irreversible deformation causing a reduction in the longitudinal extent of the pillar when the pillar is subjected to the compression force, so that when the compression force is fully released the pillar will exhibit an expansion in the longitudinal direction of the pillar which is less that the reduction in the longitudinal extent of the pillar. Further is shown a process for manufacturing of a compressible pillar, a method of producing a VIG unit as well as a VIG unit.
