Wear resistant downhole piston
A piston for use in a rotary steerable system includes a body formed from a first material. A sealing surface extends around the circumferential wall of the body. The sealing surface is formed from a plurality of layers of a second material. The second material is harder than the first material. The piston can be within a downhole piston assembly that also includes a housing, and the piston being longitudinally movable in a bore in the housing. A method for producing a piston includes preparing a piston formed from a first material, with the piston including a first end. A sealing surface is applied to the piston using laser cladding, with the sealing surface including a second material harder than the first material. The sealing surface is finished to a sealing surface diameter.

Isolated lubrication system for drill bits
An isolated lubrication system for a drill bit is disclosed. The system comprises a body having a cutting arm with a journal and a rotary cutter mounted on the journal. The system also comprises a reservoir in a body to contain a fluid lubricant that isolated from communication outside the body. The system also comprises multiple conduits in communication with the reservoir and with respect to each other. The multiple conduits facilitate lubrication between the journal and the rotary cutter, including the bearings, by means of a gravitational force and/or a centrifugal force acting of the fluid lubricant. Further, the system comprises a sealing system. The sealing system includes a sealing cap provided to the reservoir, a seal provided between the journal and the rotary cutter, and a stepped passageway provided in a clearance between the rotary cutter and a cutting arm of the body.

ROLLER CUTTING TOOL WITH IMPROVED SEALLING
A roller cutter for a drill head for raise boring. The roller cutter having a shaft with a longitudinal center line, a hub rotatably mounted on the shaft, and a seal retainer located between the axial ends of the hub and the shaft at least arranged at one end of the roller cutter. The seal retainer supports a primary cutter seal providing sealing between the shaft and the hub in both axial and radial directions. A secondary cutter seal is located between the seal retainer and the hub, such that the secondary cutter seal provides sealing in the axial direction.

BEARINGS FOR DOWNHOLE TOOLS, DOWNHOLE TOOLS INCORPORATING SUCH BEARINGS, AND RELATED METHODS
Bearing systems configured for use on a downhole tool may include a tensioner bolt having a complementary nut, the tensioner bolt and nut sized and shaped to secure the rolling cutter member to a head. A radial bearing may include an annular sleeve sized and shaped to surround the head. A shaft washer may be sized and shaped to surround the head between an enlarged head of the tensioner bolt and the annular sleeve. A bearing element may be configured for positioning proximate the head, the bearing element comprising an upper surface configured for sliding, frictional contact with a lower surface of the shaft washer.
SEMI-SEALED ROTARY DRILL TOOL
A rotary drill tool for cutting rock includes at least one journal leg mounting a spindle and a respective rotary cone cutter. The spindle includes a plurality of fluid distribution passageways arrnaged to provide a supply of a cooling and cleaning fluid to the bearing assembly. Vent holes are provided through the cutter to allow an exhaust flow of fluid and an annular seal is provided at a base region of the spindle to maintain a positive fluid pressure within the cutter cavity to prevent dust and dirt ingress.
BY-PASS FLUID PASSAGEWAY FOR DRILL TOOL
A rotary drill tool for cutting rock includes a set of journal legs that rotatably mount rotating cone shaped cutters via respective bearing assemblies. A fluid supply passageway extends through the journal legs to provide a cooling and cleaning fluid to the bearings during use. A by-pass passageway extends through a base region of the spindle that mounts each cone cutter and is provided in direct fluid communication with the supply passageway to divert the fluid to a base region of the bearing assembly.
