SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING A DOWNLINK SIGNAL
A flow regulation system for downlink communication includes a fixed flow valve and a variable flow valve on a discharge line. A pressure sensor is located between the fixed flow valve and the variable flow valve. A sinusoidal communication flow pattern in the drilling fluid is generated by adjusting the position of the variable flow valve based on measured valve pressures from the pressure sensor.

Apparatus for Switching off and Deviating A Circulating Liquid Flow without Water Hammering
An apparatus for switching off and deviating a circulating liquid flow without water hammering, comprising an apparatus body (10) including an inlet channel (11) which is split into two outlet channels (12, 13) in which respective flow valves (14, 15) are arranged; said apparatus body comprises moreover a discharging channel (16) coupled to said outlet channels through respective discharging valves (17, 18); said outlet channels being moreover coupled to respective pressure measuring chambers (19, 20); a balancing valve (21) communicating two middle zones (22, 23) respectively formed in the outlet channels.
ULTRASOUND COLOR FLOW IMAGING FOR DRILLING APPLICATIONS
A system and method for rheology measurement of a drilling fluid. The system may comprise an ultrasound transmitter positioned to direct ultrasound pulses into the drilling fluid; an ultrasound receiver positioned to receive sound waves reflected from the drilling fluid; and a computer system configured to determine a velocity profile of the drilling fluid based at least in part on the reflected sound waves. The method may comprise flowing at least a portion of the drilling fluid through a rheology measurement system; directing ultrasound pulses into the drilling fluid while the drilling fluid is flowing through the rheology measurement system; measuring sound waves reflected by the drilling fluid; and determining a velocity profile of the drilling fluid based at least on the measured sound waves.

MUD PUMP SEALING ASSEMBLY
Various assemblies that can be used in a mud pump with a plunger-style piston to reduce seal failures, to offer control in variability of the circumference of the piston to thereby control fluid pressure, and to provide visibility into seal condition during operation. In one embodiment, a sleeve that can vary the overall effective circumference of the piston enables fluid pressure control. In some embodiments, seal failure within a pump can be monitored via a drain port that would receive drilling fluid leaking past a seal during operation of the pump. A discharge valve can be provided between an inlet and an outlet of the mud pump to reduce the load on pump components during start-up. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

SELF-ALIGNING MUD PUMP ASSEMBLY
A self-aligning mud pump apparatus is provided. In one embodiment, the mud pump includes a rotatable crankshaft, a crosshead, a crosshead guide, and a hub disposed in a housing. The hub is disposed on the crankshaft and is operable to convert rotating motion of the crankshaft to reciprocating motion of the crosshead within the crosshead guide. The hub is coupled to the crosshead via a connecting rod, which is connected the crosshead such that the connecting rod has five degrees of freedom with respect to the crosshead guide. The mud pump may also or instead include a piston coupled to the crosshead with five degrees of freedom between the piston and the crosshead. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

LOAD-BALANCED MUD PUMP ASSEMBLY
A load-balanced, high-capacity mud pump is provided. In some embodiments, load balancing is achieved by spacing hubs along the crankshaft of the mud pump with the bull gears disposed opposite one another, on outer ends of the crankshaft adjacent to the housing. In such an embodiment, the hubs are disposed along the crankshaft between the bull gears. A pinion shaft (or separate pair of shafts) can be provided, mechanically supported in the mud pump by roller bearings or lubricated pads. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.
