A while drilling mud loss treatment method includes providing a drilling tool main body with a through bore connected to an above arranged wired drill pipe string with a communication line to a topsides monitoring and control system, the drilling tool main body connected to a below arranged one or more drill collar sections with a lower of said drill collar sections connected to a drill bit, and drilling in a well. The main body is provided with an annular tank with a swellable sealant and the annular tank has a valve to an outlet to the through bore. A control system in the main body receives MWD sensor signals from an MWD sensor system and controls the valve having a valve actuator. The control system is, during drilling, running a monitoring and control algorithm using the signals as input for detecting an undesired mud loss state during drilling, and, if a mud loss state is detected, to command said valve actuator to open said valve upon detecting an undesired mud loss state, so as for ejecting said swellable sealant to said through bore.

SYSTEM, METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING FLUID FLOW THROUGH DRILL STRING
20180010422 · 2018-01-11 ·

A device for limiting the flow of drilling fluid through a section of drill string includes a body with a hole in the periphery. Flow enters the device through one axial end, at least a portion of the flow exits through the other axial end. Some of the fluid flow can be diverted through the peripheral hole. A spring-biased axial piston may have an approximately constant force throughout its range of travel. The piston moves axially in response to the changing fluid flow rate to enable a constant amount of flow exiting the axial end of the tool to be achieved while diverting away excess flow through the side.

Single Ball Activated Hydraulic Circulating Tool

A circulating sub having an elongate outer member and an elongate inner member positioned within the outer member. Locking members releasably maintain the inner and outer members in a longitudinally fixed relationship. The sub may be activated by a single ball. The ball engages with the locking members and unlocks the inner member from the outer member. The increase of fluid pressure within the sub causes the inner member to move downward within the outer member. Downward movement of the inner member opens exit ports on the outer member to allow fluid to flow into a wellbore surrounding the sub. The decrease of fluid pressure within the sub causes the inner member to move upward within the outer member. Upward movement of the inner member seals the exit ports and deactivates the sub. Once the sub is deactivated, the ball may be expelled from the sub.

Bit saver assembly and method

A bit saver assembly having an inner valve sleeve that actuates upon the weight-on-bit (WOB) of the drill bit exceeding a threshold value to overcome the countervailing force provided by a spring contained within the bit saver assembly and the internal flow pressure of the drilling fluid at the area of the inner valve sleeve. Actuation of the inner valve sleeve opens a fluid passage to the wellbore annulus resulting in a reduction of drilling fluid flow pressure and the stretch of the drill string thereby reducing WOB of the drill bit without operator assistance.

Double-valve continuous circulating valve with a clamping device

The present invention discloses a novel double-valve continuous circulating valve with a clamping device, comprising a main through valve (5), a pup joint body (8), a middle connector (11) and a bypass valve (12); the main through valve seat (4), the main through valve (5) and the main through valve spring (6) are press-fitted in the pup joint body (8) through a main through valve limiting device (1); a bypass valve seat (10) is arranged at the lower side of the pup joint body (8), and the bypass valve (12) is mounted and fixed to the bypass valve seat (10) through a bypass valve limiting device (9); the middle connector (11) is press-fitted on the pup joint body (8) through a clamping device. The present invention solves the technical problems of dangerous incidents caused by the suspension of circulating medium.

Motor bypass valve

A motor bypass valve diverts drilling fluid away from a downhole motor when the motor is off bit. Bypassing the downhole motor reduces the shock and vibration on the BHA caused by the downhole motor, thereby reducing the damage to the BHA. The motor bypass valve may divert fluid out of a housing or into a bore through the rotor of the downhole motor.

Fluid handling device

A flow diverter for connecting a central bore to an outer conduit. The flow diverter defines a portion of the central bore and angled flow passages connecting the portion of the central bore to the outer conduit. Rounded edges between the central bore and angled flow passages reduce cavitation and/or turbulence. The rounded edges and an adjacent portion of the central bore may be defined by an insert.

Device and method to trigger, shift, and/or operate a downhole device of a drilling string in a wellbore

A downhole device and method to trigger, shift, and/or operate a downhole device of a drilling string in a wellbore is disclosed. At a high level, the disclosed device causes a portion of drilling fluids to bypass the drill bit and into the annulus. The bypass may be triggered upon certain conditions related to the rotation speeds of the drill string or other conditions such as the pressure of the drilling fluids. For example, the drill string may be rotated in some protocol of operation (e.g., stop at certain rpm, and/or stop at certain other rpm) to describe a recognizable series of signals to an accelerometer and/or microprocessor that will communicate to pumps or valves to operate or pause/stop operations.

Variable flow diverter downhole tool

A downhole tool configured to vary the amount of pressurized fluid delivered to other tools incorporated into a bottom hole assembly, such as a mud motor. The tool comprises an inner element installed within an outer sleeve. The inner element is configured to move between three different positions relative to the outer sleeve. In a first position, pressurized fluid is diverted away from downstream tools within the bottom hole assembly. In a second and third position, pressurized fluid is directed towards downstream tools. Movement of the tool between the different positions is caused by varying external forces applied to the tool.
