Downhole tool with bottom composite slip
A downhole tool having a mandrel, and a bottom slip disposed around the mandrel. The bottom slip includes a circular body having a one-piece configuration characterized by a plurality of slip segments by at least partial material connectivity therearound. The bottom slip is made of a filament wound composite material, which means the bottom slip has a plurality of layers joined by respective interface layers. An outer slip surface of at least one of the plurality of slip segments is defined in cross-section by a plane P that intersects a longitudinal axis of the downhole tool at an angle a1 when the bottom slip is in an unset position.
Pipe coupling devices for oil and gas applications
A pipe coupling device includes a body configured to connect a first pipe segment to a second pipe segment, a sealing device carried by the body, and an activation unit. The sealing device includes a circumferential element including a first material and a peripheral element connected to an edge of the circumferential element and including a second material that is different from the first material. The activation unit is configured to adjust the sealing device to an activated state in which the sealing device extends radially from the body to form at least a portion of a seal with a pipe that surrounds the body, such that the seal fluidically isolates a first annular region between the first pipe segment and the pipe along a first side of the seal from a second annular region between the second pipe segment and the pipe along a second side of the seal.
Mechanical casing annulus packer
A casing packer seal arrangement includes a sliding casing packer seal assembly arranged for being set by axial compression to expand against a surrounding casing pipe, the casing packer seal assembly being compressed and sled along a cylindrical mandrel. The casing packer seal assembly includes at least one packer element ring having mutually opposite, axially outward facing radially inner and outer plane ring portions; first and second conical inner rings having an axially inward directed plane ring face abutting the packer element end rings' inner plane ring portions in their expanded state; first and second expanding rings each having a conical ramp face for climbing, thus expanding, on said conical inner rings, the first and second expanding rings each having a plane, radially outer ring face for engaging, expanding with and supporting the packer element end ring's axially outward facing plane ring portions, so that when expanded, preventing extrusion of the so expanded packer element end ring in an annulus gap between the expanding rings and the surrounding casing pipe.
Retrievable seal guide
A retrievable seal guide (RSG) for installing a seal stem in a polished bore receptacle. The RSG has an outer grapple. Inside the grapple is a mandrel. At the end of the RSG is a bullet nose guide. The mandrel is spring loaded with a spring placed under the grapple Near the rear end of the guide is a plug with an o-ring. Note that the bullet nose has an opening formed in it. A channel is also formed down the length of the device. Note too that for tight formations of non-perforated liners the plug can be replaced with a stainless-steel ball that acts as a check valve. As the RSG is pulled out, the guide is pulled back, which compresses the spring forcing the mandrel back until a cam clears the collapsible fingers on the grapple, which allows the RSG to be withdrawn.
SPLIT RING SEALING ASSEMBLIES
A settable downhole tool with preset metallic split rings having gaps from their leading edges to their trailing edges. The rings expand radially outward during setting by widening the gaps, adjacent rings covering the gaps, creating a substantially fluid tight metal to metal seal with the casing.
Frac Plug with Retention Mechanism
A frac plug is provided. The frac plug includes a plug body, a sealing element, and a slip. The plug body includes a first sub and a second sub. The first sub includes a first composite material outer sleeve, and a first metal inner core engaged with and structurally supporting the first composite material outer sleeve. The second sub includes a second composite material outer sleeve, and a second metal inner core engaged with and structurally supporting the second composite material outer sleeve. The sealing element is circumferentially disposed about the first sub and, when actuated, seals an annulus between the frac plug and a tubular section. The slip is disposed between the first sub and the second sub and, when actuated, engages the tubular section.
Composite segmenting backup ring for a subterranean plug
A composite plug that can be used in fracturing has backup rings for the seal that are preferably made of a composite material. The backup rings are essentially connected segments that allow the connections to break when the plug is set and the cones are brought closer together. When the rings break to form gaps between segments in a specific ring, the adjacent ring has offset gaps so that as a whole there are no extrusion gaps that would allow the seal element to pass. The rings can be rotationally locked to each other initially at the adjacent segments that are formed when the plug is set to maintain their relative positions so that gaps between segments adjacent the seal are overlapped with segments from the adjacent ring. The segmenting backup rings can be used on one or on both sides of a sealing element.
Method and Apparatus for a plug with a retractable pivoting mechanism for untethered object
A plug assembly includes a retractable pivoting mechanism, offering temporarily one or more seating surfaces for an untethered object. The retractable pivoting mechanism has two or three pivoting positions, allowing the passage or the seating of an untethered object depending on the flow direction. The retractable pivoting mechanism can include a single retractable pivoting ring or multiple segments forming a ring after pivoting in their closed position. Another embodiment of the retractable pivoting mechanism includes a latching feature allowing to keep the mechanism in an opened position.
Telemetrically Operable Packers
A down-hole packer is provided for positioning in a wellbore to establish a seal with a surrounding surface. The packer includes a sealing element that is responsive to compression by a setting piston to radially expand into the wellbore. An actuator is provided to longitudinally move the setting piston in response to a telemetry signal received by the down-hole packer. The actuator can include a hydraulic pump, an electromechanical motor or valves operable to control hydraulic energy to apply a down-hole force to the setting piston.
Downhole system for isolating sections of a wellbore
A setting sleeve useable with a downhole system for isolating sections of a wellbore. The setting sleeve includes a first end; a second end; an outer surface; and an inner surface. There is a wall thickness formed between the inner surface and the outer surface. The setting sleeve can have at least one channel. There can be a plurality of linear channels disposed in the outer surface. In aspects, at least one channel has a rounded cross-sectional shape.
