WELLBORE LOGGING

A wellbore assembly includes a cable and a wellbore tool. The wellbore tool is coupled to the downhole end of the cable. The wellbore tool includes a housing, one or more sensors, a packer, and a controller. The one or more sensors are coupled to the housing or to the cable or both. The sensors detect one or more parameters of the wellbore tool or the cable or both. The controller is coupled to the housing. The controller is electrically coupled to one or more sensors and is operationally coupled to the packer. The controller determines, with the wellbore tool parted from the cable and based on information received from the one or more sensors, an indication of the wellbore tool in free fall. The controller activates, based on the determination, the packer to expand the packer and set the wellbore tool on a wall of the wellbore.

Catcher for dropped objects

A catcher for use in a wellbore includes a housing and an insert disposed within the housing. A method of using the catcher includes disintegrating at least a portion of the insert while the insert is held rotationally stationary with respect to the housing by a taper connection between the insert and the housing.

Tool brake

A tool brake is provided for use in horizontal wells that is positionable between a setting tool and a setting sleeve in combination with a tool string. Upon activation of the setting tool to set a bridge plug in a well, the normal action of the setting tool causes activation of the tool brake that extends one or more arms from the tool brake to exert pressure against the wellbore casing of the well. The tool brake prevents reverse slippage caused by gravity's pull of the tool string in a horizontal well permitting accurate placement of downhole tools such as perforating guns. Moreover, inadvertent cutting of a cable that retrieves the downhole tools can be prevented such as due to slippage of downhole tools over-lapping the cable before perforating guns are detonated.

A tubing anchoring tool connectable to a tubing string and positionable within a well conduit is provided, for preventing movement of a tubing string. The tool comprises one or more axial grooves formed along the length of an outer surface thereof, for accommodating cables placed therein.

Yieldable landing feature

Yieldable object landing feature including a first object landing region configured to receive and support a first size object, a second object landing region configured to receive and support a second size object, and a stress riser disposed to initiate crack formation in the second object landing region.

Submersible downhole pump

A submersible downhole pump (1) includes an elongate pump unit (3) defining a longitudinal pump axis (L) and a pump unit diameter (D), and at least one cable lug (13) for attaching a cable. The at least one cable lug (13) is connected to the pump unit (3) and pivotable around a pivot axis (P) perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (L) between a defined first position and a defined second position. The at least one cable lug (13) is positioned, in the first position, fully within the pump unit diameter (D). In the second position, the at least one cable lug (13) is positioned at least partially protruding outside the pump unit diameter (D).

Load reduction device and method for reducing load on power cable coiled tubing

A method for installing an electrical submersible pump (ESP) in a well containing a production conduit includes securing an ESP to a lower end of a coiled tubing segment containing an electrical power cable. An operator secures a load transfer device with a gripping member to the coiled tubing segment above the ESP. The operator lowers the coiled tubing segment into the well along with the ESP and the load transfer device. The load transfer device contacts an interior side wall of the production conduit with the gripping member and transfers a load on the coiled tubing segment to the production conduit. When powered, the ESP causes well fluid to flow upward from the ESP through the load transfer device up the production conduit.
