An exemplary derrick assembly includes a frame, a hydraulic cylinder assembly, a drive assembly, and a hydraulic assembly. The hydraulic cylinder assembly is mounted to the frame, and includes a piston rod, a single-tube cylinder body, and a hydraulic chamber. The piston rod is secured to the frame, and the cylinder body is mounted to the piston rod for reciprocal movement between proximal and distal positions. The hydraulic chamber is defined in part by the piston rod and the cylinder body, and expands and contracts with movement of the cylinder body. The drive assembly is mounted to the cylinder body for movement with the cylinder body. The hydraulic assembly configured to charge hydraulic fluid into and out of the hydraulic chamber to cause the hydraulic chamber to expand and contract, thereby moving the cylinder body and the drive assembly between the proximal position and the distal position.

One or more apparatuses are described for drilling, and related methods. The apparatus can include a mast articulation mechanism supported by a base structure, an elongated mast, and a mast actuator.

Automated drilling/service rig apparatus

An automated rig apparatus for drilling or servicing a well is provided. The apparatus can include a motor vehicle having a frame, and a hinged derrick mast pivotally attached to the frame. The apparatus can further include a rack disposed in the mast and a carriage assembly with pinion motors configured to travel up and down the rack when the mast is raised to a vertical position. A tool carrier configured to receive a top drive unit or a power swivel unit can be attached to the carriage assembly. The apparatus can further include a movable platform and an operators cab configured to be moved to a desired position relative to the derrick mast when the mast is raised to a vertical position. The apparatus can further include a hydraulic drive assembly to operate the apparatus, and a mud pump and manifold for pumping drilling mud.

Drill Mast Locking System

A method includes receiving a user input to conduct a coarse pivot movement of a drill mast. A locking-pin withdraw signal is sent to a locking pin actuator for a first period of time. Responsive to determining that a locking pin is engaged with a locking hole after the first period of time, the drill mast is repositioned from a current angle to an initial angle. A second locking-pin withdraw signal is sent to the locking pin actuator for a second period of time. Responsive to determining that the locking pin is engaged with the locking hole after the second period of time, the drill mast is repositioned between a minimum drill mast angle and a maximum drill mast angle and sending a third locking-pin withdraw signal to the locking pin actuator for a third period of time.

Mobile coiled tubing reel unit, rig and arrangements thereof

A system is provided for injecting coiled tubing (CT) into and out of a wellbore. In embodiments, separate injector and reel units are provided releasing constraints on CT size and length. The injector unit is fit with an extendible mast for handling larger bottom hole assemblies and fit with a rotating gooseneck for accepting CT from alternate arrangements of the reel unit. The mast is reinforced to resist CT loading. The capacity of the reel is maximized for the reel unit transport envelope. The reel is rotated using an offset drive engaging a bounding reel flange, such as engaging drive and bull gears. A generally radial displacement of the drive from the reel permits replacement of the entire reel.
