Oil cooling system for aircraft engine

An oil cooling system for an aircraft engine, a bypass valve and an associate method of cooling aircraft engine oil are provided. The oil cooling system includes a heat exchanger having an inlet and an outlet. The inlet is in fluid communication with a first oil conduit to receive a first oil flow from the first oil conduit. The heat exchanger facilitates heat transfer from the first oil flow to another fluid. A flow restrictor defining a constriction is operatively disposed to restrict the first oil flow through the heat exchanger. A second oil conduit receives the first oil flow from the heat exchanger. A bypass oil passage provides fluid communication between the first oil conduit and the second oil conduit to allow a second oil flow received from the first oil conduit to flow to the second oil conduit and bypass the heat exchanger.

MULTIPLE RESERVOIR LUBRICATION SYSTEM

A lubrication system for use with a gas turbine engine includes a first reservoir for containing a lubricant. The first reservoir includes a first discharge passage through which the lubricant is flowable in a first direction. A second reservoir contains the lubricant. The second reservoir includes a second discharge passage through which the lubricant is flowable in a second direction. The first direction is generally opposite to the second direction. A first pump pumps the lubricant from the first reservoir. A second pump pumps the lubricant from the second reservoir. A manifold distributes the lubricant to a component. The lubricant from the first pump and the second pump flows into the manifold and exits the manifold through a manifold discharge.

A gear reduction includes a sun gear that engages a plurality of planet gears mounted on a carrier. The planet gears are engaged with a ring gear. The ring gear is fixed against rotation such that rotation of the sun gear causes rotation of the planet gears to cause rotation of the carrier. There are spray bars positioned circumferentially between adjacent ones of the planet gears. The spray bars have jet openings, such that lubricant can be passed directly onto teeth on the sun gear. One of the side faces has a plurality of windows such that oil can be scavenged. There are side surfaces between plurality of windows that do not have an opening. A gas turbine engine and a spray bar are also disclosed.

Gas and liquid separation passage arrangement

A gas and liquid separation system could be said to have a passage with an inlet connected to receive a mixed gas and liquid flow. An air separation tube extends into the passage at a location downstream of where the inlet is connected with an upstream tube end upstream in the passage relative to a downstream tube end. The upstream tube end provides an obstruction to the mixed gas and liquid flow, to cause separation of the gas from the mixed gas and liquid flow. A liquid tube is connected to the passage at a location downstream of the air separation tube.

An oil supply system and a method for operating the same to provide oil to a gas turbine engine in a variety of harsh operating conditions is provided. The oil supply system includes a main oil tank and an auxiliary oil tank which share oil through a tank sharing valve that may be closed if a depressurization event occurs in the main oil tank. The oil supply system further includes an auxiliary supply conduit and an auxiliary oil pump for providing oil to the gas turbine engine in the event of main oil tank depressurization or in negative gravity conditions where the oil within the auxiliary oil tank rises to the top of the tank and uncovers the oil pump supply.
