Airfoil attachment for turbine rotor
A turbine for a gas turbine engine includes, among other things, a shaft rotatable about a longitudinal axis, a turbine rotor including one or more rows of turbine blades and a disk assembly coupled to the shaft. The disk assembly includes one or more disks each having an attachment region extending radially between an inner boundary and an outer boundary, the outer boundary is established by an outer periphery of the respective disk, the attachment region defines an array of slots distributed about the outer periphery, each of the slots extends radially inwardly from the outer boundary to the inner boundary, and each of the slots is dimensioned to receive a root section of a respective one of the turbine blades to mount the turbine blades to the disk assembly.
Method for replacing metal airfoil with ceramic airfoil, and related turbomachine blade
A method may include: in a used metal turbomachine blade including a root including a shank, a platform coupled to the shank and an airfoil coupled to the platform, removing the airfoil, leaving a remaining base including the platform, the shank and the root. The method may also form a radially extending opening through the platform into the shank, and insert a ceramic shank nub extending from a ceramic airfoil into the radially extending opening of the remaining base. The ceramic airfoil is fixedly attached to the remaining base. The method allows reuse of the metal shank while providing the lower cooling requirements of a ceramic airfoil.
AIRFOIL ASSEMBLY
An airfoil assembly for a turbine engine defines an axial direction, a radial direction, and a circumferential direction, and includes a first airfoil defining a first end along the radial direction, a first hub disposed on the first end of the first airfoil and having a first extension member extending at least partially in the radial direction, and a second airfoil adjacent to the first airfoil, the second airfoil defining a first end along the radial direction, a second hub disposed on the first end of the second airfoil and comprising a second extension member extending at least partially in the radial direction, and a circumferential bias assembly operable with the first extension member, the second extension member, or both for exerting a circumferential force on the first extension member, the second extension member, or both.
Vane arc segment with flange having step
A vane arc segment includes an airfoil fairing that has a platform and an airfoil section that extends therefrom. The platform defines periphery edge faces, a gaspath face, and a non-gaspath face. The platform has a flange that projects radially from the non-gaspath face. The flange defines a forward flange face, an aft flange face, and a radial flange face. The flange has an end portion adjacent one of the periphery edges. The end portion includes a step that defines a radial step face that is radially intermediate the radial flange face and the non-gaspath face.
Turbine engine blade made of composite material with a bulb-shaped root
A turbine engine blade made of composite material including fiber reinforcement obtained by three dimensionally weaving yarns and densified with a matrix, the blade including an airfoil and a blade root forming a single part. The blade root includes two opposite lateral flanks that are substantially plane and that are clamped between two independent pads made of composite material, which pads are fastened against the lateral flanks of the blade root to form a blade root that is bulb-shaped.
Ceramic matrix composite rotor blade attachment
A rotor disk assembly for a gas turbine engine. A multiple of blade attachments each received within a slot in a rotor disk. The rotor blade attachment manufactured of a metal alloy and a rotor blade retained between each two of the multiple of blade attachments, the rotor blade manufactured of non-metal alloy.
Turbine with reduced burst margin
A ceramic matrix composite gas turbine blade comprising a root portion coupled to a disk, said root portion having a neck; a platform region is disposed along an upper portion of the neck; an airfoil is located opposite the neck relative to the platform and extends outwardly from the platform; and a limiting section fuse formed in the blade proximate the neck.
Gas turbine engine
A highly efficient gas turbine engine is provided. The fan of the gas turbine engine is driven from a turbine via a gearbox, such that the fan has a lower rotational speed than the driving turbine, thereby providing efficiency gains. The efficient fan system is mated to a core that has low cooling flow requirements and/or high temperature capability, and which may have particularly low mass for a given power.
BLADE
A blade includes an airfoil and a root having diverging walls. The diverging walls are made of a ceramic matrix composite material. A reinforcement element is provided between the diverging walls.
