A steam generator comprises: a pressure vessel; a gas inlet to the pressure vessel, arranged to receive hydrogen and oxygen under pressure; an ignition means within the pressure vessel, arranged to ignite hydrogen and oxygen received at the gas inlet; a water jacket in or on the pressure vessel; a water inlet arranged to receive water under pressure and feed it to the water jacket; a spray outlet within the pressure vessel; and a steam outlet for the outlet of steam from the pressure vessel. In use, water received at the water inlet passes along the water jacket to provide cooling of the pressure vessel and is output at the spray outlet to provide a water spray (and/or film) that mixes with the ignited hydrogen and oxygen to vaporize the water spray.

A power-to-X system having an electrolyzer and an energy converter which are connected together via a hydrogen line. The system additionally has a chemical reactor for catalytically removing oxygen, a first heat exchanger, a water separator, a store, and a humidifier which are connected into the hydrogen line in the stated order one behind the other between the electrolyzer and the energy converter. A second heat exchanger is arranged in the hydrogen line such that a first side of the second heat exchanger is arranged in front of the first heat exchanger and a second side of the second heat exchanger is arranged downstream of the water separator in the hydrogen line.

A method for heating exhaust gas in a steam generator for a combined-cycle power plant comprises directing combustion gas of a gas turbine engine into a duct, introducing hydrogen fuel into the duct, combusting the hydrogen fuel and the combustion gas to generate heated gas, and heating water in the duct with the heated gas to generate steam.

SYSTEM HAVING A COMBUSTION POWER PLANT AND AN ELECTROLYSIS UNIT, AND METHOD FOR OPERATING A SYSTEM OF THIS TYPE

A system includes a combustion power plant for generating power and an electrolysis unit for producing hydrogen. The combustion power plant has a combustion chamber for combustion of a fuel and an offgas conduit for leading off hot offgases formed in the combustion of the fuel. The offgas conduit is thermally coupled to the electrolysis unit. A method for operating the system includes burning the fuel in the combustion power plant, forming the hot offgases in the combustion of the fuel, removing the hot offgases through the offgas conduit, feeding the thermal energy of the hot offgases from the offgas conduit to the electrolysis unit, and producing hydrogen in the electrolysis unit by using the thermal energy from the hot offgases.

A method for producing an energy source from excess electricity is disclosed. The method uses excess electricity from a power grid when electrical demand is low. The method produces the energy source by performing the steps firstly in the storage phase of feeding the excess electricity to a thermal reactor wherein solid carbon and gaseous hydrogen are produced from the thermal reaction of a hydrocarbon; feeding the gaseous hydrogen to a hydrogen storage unit; feeding the solid carbon to a carbon storage unit; and secondly in the discharge phase, feeding the solid carbon to a combustion unit wherein steam is produced; and feeding the steam to an engine or a turbine thereby producing electricity.

HYDROGEN PRODUCTION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN IN A HYDROGEN PRODUCTION SYSTEM

Provided is a hydrogen production system including a thermal energy storage having a housing, a storage chamber with heat storage material inside the storage chamber and a fluid inlet port fluidically connected to the storage chamber and a fluid outlet port fluidically connected to the storage chamber, and at least one high temperature electrolyser for producing hydrogen, whereby the at least one high temperature electrolyser is thermally connected to the heat storage material of the storage chamber of the thermal energy storage. Several modes of operation are defined. A method for producing hydrogen in the hydrogen production system is also provided.

HYDROGEN-OXYGEN FUELED POWERPLANT WITH WATER AND HEAT RECOVERY

A powerplant is provided that includes an engine and a water recovery system. The engine includes an engine combustor, an engine turbine, a flowpath and a fluid delivery system. The flowpath extends out of the engine combustor and through the engine turbine. The fluid delivery system includes a hydrogen reservoir and an oxygen reservoir. The hydrogen reservoir is configured to store fluid hydrogen as liquid hydrogen. The oxygen reservoir is configured to store fluid oxygen as liquid oxygen. The fluid delivery system is configured to provide the fluid hydrogen and the fluid oxygen for combustion within the engine combustor to produce combustion products within the flowpath. The water recovery system is configured to extract water from the combustion products. The water recovery system is configured to provide the water to a component of the powerplant.
