CYLINDER DEACTIVATION MECHANISMS FOR PUSHROD VALVE TRAIN SYSTEMS AND ROCKER ARMS
A valvetrain assembly comprises a deactivatable rocker arm where a pushrod is configured to transfer a valve lift profile through to a valve end to a valve or valve bridge. A castellation assembly in a carrier and alternative two-piece rocker arm assemblies with rotary or linear actuators are shown for deactivating the transfer of the valve lift profile.
ROCKER ARM ASSEMBLY WITH VALVE BRIDGE
A rocker arm assembly selectively opening first and second engine valves. The assembly includes a rocker arm and a valve bridge operably associated with the rocker arm and including a main body and a lever rotatably coupled to the main body. The main body is configured to engage the first engine valve, and the lever is configured to engage the second engine valve.
VARIABLE VALVE MECHANISM
A variable valve mechanism includes a cam that rotates about a rotating shaft in association with rotation of a crank shaft of an engine, a swinging arm that is disposed between the cam and a valve and is pushed by the rotating cam to swing and push the valve by a first end portion of the swinging arm, and a moving device that moves a second end portion of the swinging arm. Further, there is a regulating member that is coupled to the first end portion of the swinging arm so as to be rotatable and regulates displacement of the first end portion of the swinging arm relative to the valve when the second end portion of the swinging arm is moved by the moving device. The mechanism further includes a connection member that connects the second end portion of the swinging arm to the moving device.
Valve train system for extended duration intake valve opening
A variable valve timing assembly is provided for extending a duration of an intake valve opening. The variable valve timing assembly includes an intake rocker mounted on a pedestal and operable by a cam lobe to open and close the intake valve. The intake rocker includes a lever extension, and a holding member in the pedestal is lockable in position by a hydraulic circuit in the pedestal to contact the lever extension of the intake rocker and hold the intake valve in the open position. A reset pin in the pedestal is actuatable by the cam lobe to release the holding member to allow the intake valve to close.
ENGINE BRAKING SYSTEM
An engine braking system includes a camshaft, a follower, an exhaust armature, a lever, and a hydraulically actuated piston. The camshaft includes at least one cam. The cam has a lobe and a brake bump. The follower engages the cam. The exhaust armature is coupled to the follower. The lever is coupled to the exhaust armature. The hydraulically actuated piston moves the lever. Hydraulic actuation of the piston causes a change in lash distance between the cam and the follower. In an engine brake mode, the follower contacts the cam throughout rotation of the cam.
Radial Engine-Generator With Overhead Camshaft
A radial engine-generator includes an electric power generator and a radial engine. The radial engine-generator can be a mobile and portable unit, and is employable as a primary or back-up source of electric power at data centers, manufacturing facilities, electric vehicle charging stations, medical facilities, telecommunications, and residential neighborhoods, among many other applications. The electric power generator and radial engine are coupled together. The radial engine includes, among other components, multiple cylinders, multiple cylinder heads, and multiple overhead camshaft assemblies. The overhead camshaft assemblies are located at the cylinder heads and each include one or more camshafts. The camshaft(s) receive rotational drive input from a crankshaft of the radial engine. In certain implementations, camshaft carrier assemblies can be provided to support components of the overhead camshaft assemblies.
PRESSURE RESERVOIR IN ROCKER SHAFT FOR ENGINE BRAKE
Disclosured herein are apparatus and methods relating to combustion engines. In an example, a combustion engine includes a head and a rocker assembly. The rocker assembly including: a rocker shaft including therein a pressure reservoir, a pedestal support adapted to be fastened to the head and sized and structured to support the rocker shaft, a rocker lever pivotally supported by the rocker shaft, and a hydraulic engine brake mechanism within the rocker lever including a hydraulic control valve configured to selectively actuate an exhaust valve of the combustion engine.
Valve actuation system comprising at least two rocker arms and a one-way coupling mechanism
A valve actuation system comprises at least one main rocker arm operatively connected to a first engine valve, the at least one main rocker arm configured to receive at least main valve actuation motions. A second rocker arm is operatively connected to a second engine valve, the second rocker arm being configured to receive first auxiliary valve actuation motions. The second rocker arm further comprising a hydraulically-controlled first actuator that can selectively couple or decouple the second rocker arm and the second engine valve thereby permitting or preventing conveyance of the first auxiliary valve actuation motions from the second rocker arm to the second engine valve. A one-way coupling mechanism disposed between the at least one main rocker arm and the second rocker arm permits valve actuation motions to be transferred from the at least one main rocker arm to the second rocker arm, but not vice versa.
Carrier having integrated engine brake and lubrication oil path
An oil supply carrier assembly configured to be mounted to a valve train carrier having a plurality of rocker arms according to the present disclosure includes an oil supply carrier housing having a first oil inlet port and a second oil inlet port. The oil supply carrier housing supports an oil control valve and further includes first, second and third oil supply passages. The first oil supply passage is configured to deliver oil from the first oil inlet port on the valve train carrier to the oil control valve. The second oil supply passage is configured to deliver oil from the valve train carrier to at least one engine brake rocker arm of the rocker arms. The third oil supply passage is configured therein to deliver oil from the second oil inlet port to the rocker arms.
