CAMSHAFT RETAINERS WITH AS-PRESSED WINDAGE RELIEF HOLES AND A METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
A high-performance camshaft retainer having a plurality of windage relief holes embodying an as-pressed configuration and a method of manufacturing the same, wherein the windage relief holes are molded from a powdered metal matrix and provided in an as-molded detail.
Transmission control with cylinder deactivation
A method for controlling vehicle speed comprises selecting an engine speed profile for a vehicle. Road grade data is received and processed to determine a road grade for the vehicle. Vehicle speed data is received and processed to determine a vehicle speed for the vehicle. A cylinder deactivation mode for a valvetrain of a multi-cylinder engine of the vehicle is selected. The cylinder deactivation mode comprises deactivating one or more intake valve, exhaust valve, and fuel injection for one or more cylinder of the multi-cylinder engine. The selected cylinder deactivation mode provides a controlled deviation from the selected engine speed profile at the road grade and vehicle speed.
VALVE BRIDGE CONSTRAINTS AND GUIDES AND RELATED METHODS
Valve bridge systems include constraints and guides for managing bridge jump and other uncontrolled valve bridge motion during engine operation. Constraints may include an e-foot collar, an extended portion on the bridge, and a bridge brake pin. Guides may include valve stem tip lead-in chamfers surrounding the valve bridge valve pockets as well as a deflection surface on the bridge extended portion. Methods of configuring valve bridges may include configuring the valve step tip lead-in chamfers based on worst-case positions of the valve bridge defined by one or more or a combination of the constraints provided by the e-foot collar, extended portion and brake pin.
COMPACT ENGINE BRAKE WITH PRESSURE-CONTROL RESET
A compression-release engine brake system operating an exhaust valve of an engine during a compression-release engine braking operation. The compression-release brake system comprises an exhaust rocker arm and a brake reset device disposed in a reset bore formed in the exhaust rocker arm. The brake reset device comprises a reset check valve, a slider-piston slidably disposed in the reset bore and an external slider bias spring biasing the piston foot away from the brake reset device. The external slider bias spring is disposed outside the reset bore and around the piston-slider. The brake reset device permits pressurized hydraulic fluid to flow from a supply conduit to a reset conduit to supply a brake actuation piston when the reset check valve is open. The actuation piston extends and engages the exhaust valve toward the end of a compression stroke of the internal combustion engine, and the brake reset device resets.
SWITCHING ROCKER ARM HAVING STAMPED INNER ARM CONFIGURATION
A switching roller finger follower (SRFF) assembly for valve actuation includes an outer arm and an inner arm pivotally coupled to the outer arm via a pivot axle and at least partially disposed within the outer arm. The inner arm is unitarily formed and has a first inner side arm and a second inner side arm having respective laterally spaced apart longitudinal bends that each define pin apertures. A spring engagement pin extends through the pin apertures, a pair of lost motion springs are supported by the pivot axle, an inner roller is rotatably coupled to the inner arm, and a pair of outer rollers are disposed on respective axles supported by the outer arm.
Internal combustion engine with fast combustion and method of control of such an engine
An internal combustion engine includes an electro-hydraulic system for variable actuation of intake valves where each cylinder has two intake valves, associated with two intake conduits. A first conduit is generates within the cylinder a tumble motion of airflow introduced therein, when the intake valve associated thereto is at least partially opened. The second intake conduit generates within the cylinder a swirl motion of airflow introduced therein when the second intake valve is at least partially opened. A controller of controls one or more control valves to open only one of the intake valves of each cylinder in a condition of reduced engine operation, below a predetermined load and/or a predetermined speed of the engine, and to always open both intake valves in the remaining conditions of engine operation. The first intake valve is the only valve to be opened in the reduced engine operation condition.
Oil passage switching valve and valve timing changing apparatus
An oil passage switching valve suitable for a valve timing changing apparatus includes: a valve body, opening or closing an oil passage of operating oil; an urging spring, urging to position the valve body to a position corresponding to the retard position in a pause state; and a switching element, positioning the valve body to a position corresponding to the retard position when a state quantity of the operating oil is in a first range, and switching a position of the valve body in response to the state quantity (pressure or temperature) of the operating oil while resisting an urging force of the urging spring to position the valve body to a position corresponding to the advance position when the state quantity of the operating oil is in a second range greater than the first range.
Coil spring
A coil spring of this invention includes a first end coil part with a first bearing surface facing to the first side in the axial direction, a second end coil part with a second bearing surface facing to the second side in the axial direction and a central coil part connecting the first and second end coil parts. A displacement length in the axial direction from the outer end portion until the inner end portion of the first end coil part is a thickness of a spring wire forming the coil spring so that a space between the outer end portion of the first end coil part and an inner end portion of the central coil part is zero, and a displacement length in the axial direction between the outer end portion of the first end coil part and a point away along the circumferential direction from the outer end portion toward the inner end portion of the first end coil part by a half of turn around the axial line is less than a half of the thickness of the spring wire.
Valve rotating device
The invention relates to a valve rotating device (24) for a valve (10), preferably an intake valve or exhaust valve, of an internal combustion engine. The valve rotating device (24) has a valve restoring spring (22) for preloading the valve (10) toward a closed position of the valve (10) and a Belleville spring (40), which is arranged in operative connection between the valve restoring spring (22) and a support surface (44), which is lubricated with a lubricating fluid. An at least partially, preferably completely, peripherally extending collar portion (46) is arranged on a periphery, preferably inner periphery, of the Belleville spring (40). The collar portion (46) can have a wear-reducing effect and/or can make the valve rotating device (24) easier to install.
Stem seal for valve assembly of machine engine
A valve assembly for an engine includes a gas exchange valve, a valve guide, and a seal. The gas exchange valve includes a valve stem. The valve guide includes an outer surface having a stem seal retention surface disposed at a seal end thereof. The valve stem extends through the valve guide such that the valve is reciprocally movable over a range of travel along the longitudinal axis with respect thereto. The seal is mounted to the stem seal retention surface of the valve guide such that the seal is in running, sealing engagement with the valve stem. The stem seal retention surface includes a shoulder surface to help retain the seal.
