Electronic Valve Train Assembly
20230127691 · 2023-04-27 ·

An electronic valve train assembly for performing intake and exhaust duties of an internal combustion engine includes a housing that is mounted to a head of an internal combustion engine. A plurality of valves is each movably integrated into the housing and extends into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. A plurality of magnets is each attached to a respective one of the valves. A plurality of first electromagnets is each positioned within the housing to magnetically attract a respective one of the magnets when the first electromagnets are turned on thereby urging the valves into a closed condition. A plurality of second electromagnets is each positioned within the housing to magnetically attract a respective one of the magnets when the second electromagnets are turned on thereby urging the valves into an open condition.

Fast-Acting Toggling Armature Uses Centring Spring

A translating actuator acting between two extreme positions defined by mechanical stops is described. Said actuator comprises: an armature mass movable relative to the armature body, a stiff armature spring set such that the natural resting position of the armature mass is close to the centre of travel between the two extreme positions and pair of latches with sufficient holding force that the armature mass can be held at either extreme position against the restoring force of the spring and can be released quickly relative to the natural period of vibration determined by the armature mass on the armature spring.

Valve drive device with switchover device

A valve drive device for actuating valves of an internal combustion engine a rocker arm device and a switchover device that includes at least two actuators for the at least one rocker arm device. The two actuators respectively include a switching element adjustable between a first position and a second position; a resetting device for resetting the switching element with a resetting force into the second position; a holding coil for offsetting the resetting force of the resetting device; a switching coil that counteracts the resetting force during operation. The switching coil and the holding coil adjust the switching element into the first position.

VARIABLE TRAVEL VALVE APPARATUS FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

An apparatus includes a valve and an actuator. The valve has a portion movably disposed within a valve pocket defined by a cylinder head of an engine. The valve is configured to move relative to the cylinder head a distance between a closed position and an opened position. The portion of the valve defines a flow opening that is in fluid communication with a cylinder of an engine when the valve is in the opened position. The actuator is configured to selectively vary the distance between the closed position and the opened position.

Linear actuator for valve control and operating systems and methods

Linear actuators are disclosed. The linear actuator comprises a thruster and a stator. The thruster includes a thruster winding, and the stator includes a stator winding. The stator is disposed about the thruster. The linear actuator also includes a sheath disposed about the stator and the thruster. The thruster is configured to translate within the sheath relative to the stator upon application of an electrical current to the stator winding, the thruster winding, or a combination thereof. The stator winding and the thruster winding each comprise a nonpermanent magnet.

An electrical system including a linear motor in which energized forcer and thruster coils are used for the field and armature elements, respectively. In accordance with various exemplary embodiments, one or more thruster coils may be provided on a reciprocating shaft with opposing single or multiple fixed forcer coils. Using coils as the electromagnets for both forcer and thruster coils advantageously provides necessary power while also minimizing system weight and decreases in magnetism typically encountered with permanent magnets with rising temperature, resulting in higher and more controllable magnetic forces over varying temperatures. A ferrous system housing and open ferrous containers for the thruster coils may be further included to advantageously focus the magnetic forces. Additionally, multiple forcer and thruster coils may be disposed in various arrangements along the reciprocating shaft. Exemplary applications include use of such a system for controlling oscillations of a poppet valve in an internal combustion engine.

A housing of an exhaust valve is provided for an exhaust port communicating with a combustion chamber. The housing has a plate-shaped portion formed with a plurality of fixed slits radially extending from the central axis of the port. A valve element is provided adjacent to the plate-shaped section, is rotatable around a central axis, and has formed with a plurality of movable slits radially extending from the central axis. Due to the action of electromagnets and a permanent magnet attached to an annular member, the valve body is rotationally displaced around the central axis of the port, and the relative positional relationship between the fixed slits and the movable slits is changed to open and close the exhaust valve. The same is also true for an intake valve.
