SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR EXTENDING OIL LIFE IN AN ENGINE
A system is provided. The system includes a reciprocating engine configured to consume oil at or less than 0.25 g/kw-hr and to use makeup oil. The reciprocating engine includes an engine oil sump. The system is configured to maintain an oil volume in the reciprocating engine during operation so that a residence time of oil in the reciprocating engine is at or less than 1000 hours.
DILUTION SUPPRESSION DEVICE OF LUBRICATING OIL FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A dilution suppression device 1 consists of a container 11 that can hold lubricating oil O containing a fuel component of an engine, a lubricating oil injection section 12 that injects lubricating oil O into the container 11, an absorption section 13 that is provided inside the container 11 and can absorb lubricating oil O, an internal pressure reduction section 14 that reduces the internal pressure of the container, a heating section 15 that heats the lubricating oil O to separate the fuel component from the lubricating oil O, a gas introduction section 16 that introduces gas into the container 11, a fuel component discharge section 17 that discharges the fuel component from the container 11, and a lubricating oil discharge section 18 that discharges the lubricating oil O with the fuel component separated from the container 11.
Circulating coolant fluid in hybrid electrical propulsion systems
A hybrid propulsion system includes a heat engine configured to drive a heat engine shaft. An electric motor configured to drive a motor shaft. A transmission system is connected to receive rotational input power from each of the heat engine shaft and the motor shaft and to convert the rotation input power to output power. A first lubrication/coolant system is connected for circulating a first lubricant/coolant fluid through the heat engine. A second lubricant/coolant system in fluid isolation from the first lubrication/coolant system is connected for circulating a second lubricant/coolant fluid through the electric motor.
DEAERATOR FOR AIRCRAFT ENGINE AND ASSOCIATED METHOD OF OPERATION
The de-aerator can be used to separate air from oil in an aircraft engine lubrication system. The de-aerator can include a swirler cavity extending circumferentially around axis and axially between a proximal wall and a distal wall, a separation path dividing within the swirler cavity into a radially outer oil segment leading to an oil outlet and a radially inner air segment leading to an air outlet, and a swirling conduit portion having a length turning around the axis upstream of an opening in the proximal wall along the separation path.
Systems and methods for attaching and retaining a filter element on a rotating shaft
An attachment and retaining mechanism is described for removably attaching a rotating filter element to a rotating shaft. The rotating filter element includes a filter media that is driven by a drive mechanism that rotates the rotating shaft. The filter element is removably attached to the rotating shaft such that the filter element and filtration system can be periodically replaced and/or serviced. In some arrangements, the drive shaft includes a D-shaped section that interacts with a mating section of the filter element sleeve of the rotating filter element. In other arrangements, the drive shaft includes at least one flat drive surface.
Filter system and replaceable filter cartridge
A filter system can include a replaceable filter cartridge having a spinner element structured to swirl a mixed flow of compressible fluid and oil, as well as an end cap used to enclose an open interior of a filter media of the filter cartridge. The filter cartridge can be configured to interface with and be supported by a mesh holder. A housing can be attached over the filter cartridge to enclose the system and create a flow path for a mixed flow of compressible fluid and oil. The replaceable filter cartridge can be constructed of materials suitable for disposal in a waste incineration process. The mesh holder can be inserted on a combo-block and secured in place by a compression fitting. A stand pipe can extend into the interior of the filter media and be coupled with a central passage of the mesh holder.
Air-oil separator system for a vehicle
The present invention comprises an apparatus and method for replacing an original equipment manufacturer air-oil separator apparatus having an integral pressure control valve (“OEM-AOS” system) in a vehicle. The OEM-AOS system is disconnected from the engine air intake. The integral pressure control valve is disabled. An accumulator for collecting oil from by-pass combustion gas is connected to the OEM-AOS system. A discrete pressure control valve (“discrete-PCV”) is connected to the accumulator and to the engine air intake. The discrete-PCV is located within the vehicle at an easily accessible location so that it can be quickly accessed and replaced when necessary. The accumulator includes a sensor that is operable to send a warning signal to a vehicle operator when the vehicle needs to be serviced to remove condensed oil from the accumulator.
Oil distribution system for gas turbine engine
An oil supply system for supplying oil to a lubricating cavity of a gas turbine engine, the oil supply system has: a de-oiler having a de-oiler air-oil inlet, a de-oiler oil outlet hydraulically connected to the lubricating cavity, and a de-oiler air outlet in fluid flow communication with an environment outside of the oil supply system; and a closed-loop oil circuit including a main pump having a main pump inlet and a main pump outlet, the main pump outlet hydraulically connected to the lubricating cavity, a de-aerator having a de-aerator inlet hydraulically connected to a scavenge outlet of the lubricating cavity, a de-aerator air-oil outlet in fluid flow communication with the de-oiler inlet, and a de-aerator oil outlet hydraulically connected to the main pump inlet.
