Removal of contaminants from air for use in aircraft engines
A secondary air system for an aircraft engine comprises an air flow path communicating between a source of pressurized cooling air and an air consuming component. A filter is disposed in the air flow path upstream from the air consuming component. The filter has at least one of: openings of a size selected for capturing suspended particles; and a filter surface material for binding with chemical contaminants.
WATER INGRESS PREVENTING STRUCTURE FOR TAILPIPE
Disclosed is a water ingress preventive structure for a tailpipe which discharges exhaust gas outside of a vehicle at a terminal of an exhaust passage system. A curved shape is imparted to the tailpipe. A partition is mounted on an inner periphery of a curved portion outward of a curved direction so as to be gradually spaced apart from the inner periphery toward downstream in a direction of flow of the exhaust gas. Thus, a dead end portion is defined by the partition and the inner periphery of the curved portion outward of the curved direction.
Method and apparatus to protect downstream engine components from damage in the event of a turbine failure
A method and apparatus for protecting downstream engine components from damage in the event of a turbine failure involves positioning a debris trap downstream of a turbo and upstream of an engine. The debris trap includes an outer body with an inlet opening at a first end of a first diameter, an outlet opening, and an interior of a second diameter which is larger than the inlet opening. An inner body extends into the interior of the outer body with air flow openings in the inner body communicating with the outlet opening. An impaction plate is supported by the inner body in axial alignment with the inlet opening. Turbo fragments strike and are slowed by impact with the impaction plate. The turbo fragments collect in the interior of the outer body with air escaping by entering the air flow openings of the inner body and passing to the outlet opening.
Catalyst device
A catalyst device includes a heating element that generates heat when energized, a case that accommodates a catalyst support (heating element), an inflow pipe that draws exhaust gas into the case, and a connecting pipe that connects the inflow pipe and the case to each other. The case includes an end portion, which protrudes further in an upstream direction than an end face of the catalyst support. The inflow pipe is disposed inside the case. The catalyst device includes a triple-walled pipe structure, in which the connecting pipe overlaps with the end portion of the case and the inflow pipe in a covering manner.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HANDLING EXHAUST GAS
An exhaust handling system comprising: an exhaust pipe having an exhaust outlet, said exhaust outlet having a nozzle arranged to vent exhaust gas; at least one acceleration jet arranged to project an air flow at a velocity head greater than that of the vented exhaust gas; wherein the at least one acceleration jet and exhaust outlet are positioned to project the air flow so as to impinge on a path of said vented exhaust gas, and consequently transfer velocity head to the vented exhaust gas.
DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID INJECTION SHIELD AND DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID INJECTION SYSTEM
A shield for a diesel exhaust fluid injector is mounted horizontally in an opening in a side wall of an exhaust gas aftertreatment system of an internal combustion engine. The diesel exhaust fluid injector configured to inject diesel exhaust fluid in a direction generally normal to the side wall into a mixer positioned in an exhaust gas stream. The shield may include a first portion extending axially and a second portion extending radially inwardly from the first portion.
Turbocharger assembly
The present invention relates to an improved turbocharger assembly, particularly of the variable geometry type. The improved turbocharge assembly contains a turbine. The turbine includes an impeller housed in a casing, a flange that can be sealingly associated with a corresponding flange of an exhaust gas manifold of an engine, and a clapet valve that contains a shutter element and a housing seat. The housing seat is fashioned in a frame made in one piece with the casing.
Suction tube filter arrangement and fluid tank system for a fluid tank
A suction tube filter arrangement includes a suction tube defining a suction tube direction and a filter member extending along the suction tube direction. The suction tube is at least partially arranged inside the filter member.
Water intrusion cover for sensor probe
A water intrusion cover for a sensor probe in an exhaust system is provided. The water intrusion cover includes a main body portion having a substantially cylindrical shape, an inlet opening, and an outlet opening. The inlet opening and outlet opening are formed in a sidewall of the main body portion and are fluidly coupled to form a continuous flow path defined by a surface that, in a cross-section perpendicular to an axis of the main body portion, curves from the inlet opening to the outlet opening. The water intrusion cover further includes a shoulder portion having a substantially cylindrical shape. The main body portion and the shoulder portion collectively define a central passage for the sensor probe.
