MULTI-LAYER EXHAUST INSULATION SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Exhaust insulation systems and methods are described that include multiple layers. In one example, a system includes a base insulation layer covering a portion of an exhaust pipe and a hard outer cover formed from a spirally wrapped knit tape and having a length coextensive with the length of the underlying base insulation layer. The wrapped knit tape outer cover can include successive turns of tape overlapping by 25% to 75%. The knit tape can be impregnated with a thermosetting phenolic resin prior to being wrapped about the pipe.

The second footing is offset from the platform by the second standoff and configured to be coupled to the first restraint.
Thermally insulated exhaust system components
A component of an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine. The component comprises an exhaust system structure having an interior through which exhaust gases flow and an exterior, and a thermal insulating wrap for thermally insulating at least a portion of the exterior of the exhaust system structure. The thermal insulating wrap comprises an aqueous mixture comprising an inorganic binder and inorganic filler particles, and a fabric comprising inorganic fibers. The fabric is impregnated with the aqueous mixture so as to form a pliable binder wrap. The pliable binder wrap is wound completely around at least a portion of the exhaust system structure. It can be desirable for the component to further comprise at least one thermal insulator comprising inorganic fibers, where the thermal insulator is disposed between the pliable binder wrap and the exterior of the exhaust system structure.

A tubular member for an exhaust gas treatment device according to at least one embodiment of the present invention includes: a tubular main body made of a metal; and an insulating layer formed at least on an inner peripheral surface of the tubular main body. The insulating layer contains glass containing a crystalline substance, and the glass contains silicon, boron, and magnesium.
Tubular member for exhaust gas treatment device and exhaust gas treatment device using the tubular member, and method of manufacturing tubular member for exhaust gas treatment device
A tubular member for an exhaust gas treatment device according to at least one embodiment of the present invention includes: a tubular main body made of a metal; and an insulating layer formed at least on an inner peripheral surface of the tubular main body. The insulating layer contains glass, the glass contains barium, and the glass has a content of barium of 5 mol % or more.
Container For Automotive Service Liquids With Local Thermal Insulation Integrated In The Tank Wall
An automotive service liquid tank for receiving a service liquid of a motor vehicle, in particular an aqueous urea solution, has a tank wall that encloses a tank volume on the inside of the tank, wherein the tank has locally, by comparison with at least one other tank region, at least one region with enhanced thermal insulation, in order to influence a freezing behavior of the service liquid received in the tank in such a way that the service liquid, when the outside temperature drops, freezes later in the tank region with enhanced thermal insulation than in the at least one other tank region without enhanced thermal insulation. According to the invention it is provided that the enhanced thermal insulation is formed integrally with the tank wall.
Sensor
A sensor including a sensor element, a metallic shell, a terminal fitting, a cylindrical case, lead wires, a connector portion, and a cylindrical heat shield tube. The heat shield tube includes a first tube and a second tube. The second tube is disposed on a distal end side of the first tube and covers an outer surface of the rear end side of the case, while providing an overlapping portion that overlaps the first tube. A rear end side of the first tube is adjacent to the connector portion. A total length T of the heat shield tube and a length S of the overlapping portion satisfy T/10≤S≤T/5. Further, a length L1 of the first tube and a length L2 of the second tube satisfy T/2≤L2<L1.
Process for manufacturing a component for a catalytic converter
In a process for manufacturing a catalytic converter component, a ceramic unit is used that has been prepared by extruding green ceramic product through a die to form an extrusion having a honeycomb substrate structure in which tubular passages extend along the extrusion, the passages bounded by walls dividing adjacent passages from one another. The unit is obtained by cutting off a length of the extrusion and curing and firing it. The process further comprises flowing insulation material from one end of the unit into selected ones of the elongate passages, vaporizing a moisture content of the insulation material to form pores and curing the insulation material by using microwave irradiation to solidify the pores. The passages are selected so that the cured insulation material forms an internal thermal insulating barrier between a core zone of the unit and a radially outer zone of the unit.
