Internal Combustion Engine And Method For Operating Same
Method for operating an internal combustion engine which has a gas combustion system and an exhaust gas post-treatment system. Exhaust gas that leaves the gas combustion system is directed to at least one CH4 oxidation catalytic converter of the exhaust gas post-treatment system. The CH4/NO2 mole ratio in the exhaust gas is set in a defined fashion by at least one gas-combustion-system-side and/or exhaust-gas-post-treatment-system-side measure upstream of at least one CH4 oxidation catalytic converter.
Systems and methods for dry chemical reductant insertion in aftertreatment systems
A reductant insertion system for an after treatment system configured to decompose constituents of an exhaust gas, includes: a dry reductant tank configured to contain a dry reductant; a reductant delivery line configured to operatively couple the dry reductant tank to the after treatment system for delivery of the dry reductant to the after treatment system; and a pressurized gas source configured to communicate the dry reductant to the after treatment system through the reductant delivery line using pressurized gas.
DEVICE AND METHOD IN CONNECTION WITH A PRE-HEATING PROCESS OF AN AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM
A method performed by a control unit in connection with a pre-heating process of an aftertreatment system for a combustion engine is provided. The control unit obtains a scheduled start time of the combustion engine. The control unit schedules a pre-heating of the aftertreatment system to be completed before the scheduled start time. The control unit detects a start of the combustion engine at an actual start time. In response to the detected start of the combustion engine, and using the actual and scheduled start times, the control unit determines whether the scheduled pre-heating of the aftertreatment system fulfils one or more success criteria. When the one or more success criteria are fulfilled, the control unit triggers a performance increase of the combustion engine.
CONTROLLER AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING OPERATION OF AN AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM BASED ON SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM CUMULATIVE DEGRADATION ESTIMATES
A controller for controlling operation of an aftertreatment system that is configured to treat constituents of an exhaust gas produced by an engine, the aftertreatment system including a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, the controller configured to: generate a short-term cumulative degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst corresponding to reversible degradation of the SCR catalyst due to sulfur and/or hydrocarbons based on a SCR catalyst temperature parameter; generate a long-term cumulative degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst corresponding to thermal aging of the SCR catalyst based on the SCR catalyst temperature parameter; generate a combined degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst based on the short-term cumulative degradation estimate and the long-term cumulative degradation estimate; and adjust an amount of reductant and/or an amount of hydrocarbons inserted into the aftertreatment system based on the combined degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst.
Internal combustion engine/generator with pressure boost
This invention relates to improvements in internal combustion engines. More particularly it relates to increased levels of usable electrical energy production and fuel efficiency within a relatively fixed speed, cam-track style Engine/Generator when combined with the secondary injection or injections of a rapidly expanding medium (usually water) into the engines combustion chambers during and after the combustion process has been initiated. The injection of said medium causing reduced fuel consumption, increased cylinder pressure, an extended usable piston stroke length, and increased usable energy production, while reducing the temperature of the combustion gases in order to control or eliminate the production of the pollutant, NOx and to further reduce thermal pollution exhausted into the atmosphere.
Method for controlling an exhaust flow in an Exhaust Aftertreatment System (EATS) of a vehicle
A method for controlling exhaust flow in an EATS of a vehicle. A NO.sub.x sensor output parameter is monitored. It is determined that the NO.sub.x sensor output parameter is below a limit. When the NO.sub.x sensor output parameter is below the limit, it is determined that a first part of the exhaust flow should bypass at least a first area of the SCR unit and that a second part of the exhaust flow should be inputted to at least the first area of the SCR unit. It is initiated that the first part is bypassed and that the second part is inputted to at least the first area of the SCR unit. An amount of reductant that should be added to the second part of the exhaust flow is determined. Addition of the amount of reductant is initiated.
