The optical assembly comprises an optical emitter configured to emit light onto a face of the aftertreatment component, and an optical detector configured to detect light reflected from the face of the aftertreatment component. A controller is configured to determine at least one of an amount of NOx gases or an amount of ammonia on the face of the aftertreatment component based on an optical parameter of the detected light that has reflected from the face of the aftertreatment component.
METHOD FOR ASCERTAINING AN EXHAUST GAS COMPOSITION OF AN EXHAUST GAS OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for ascertaining an exhaust gas composition of an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine with regard to an ammonia fraction and a nitrogen oxides fraction in an exhaust gas system including an SCR catalytic converter. The method includes detecting, using a sensor, a first signal whose magnitude is a function of the nitrogen oxides fraction of the exhaust gas upstream from the SCR catalytic converter, detecting using a sensor a second signal whose magnitude is a function of the ammonia fraction and the nitrogen oxides fraction of the exhaust gas downstream from the SCR catalytic converter, storing the two signals over an observation period, and ascertaining the ammonia fraction and optionally the nitrogen oxides fraction of the exhaust gas downstream from the at least one SCR catalytic converter using a calculation rule that uses the two signals during the observation period as input variables.
Self-adaptive oil spraying control system and method for biodiesel engine
The disclosure relates to a self-adaptive oil spraying control system and method for a biodiesel engine. The control system includes an exhaust pipe, a gas sensor, a control module and an oil sprayer, wherein the exhaust pipe is connected to the oil sprayer, the gas sensor is mounted in the exhaust pipe, and the gas sensor and the oil sprayer are connected to the control module respectively. According to the control method, a main spray advance angle of the engine is subjected to closed-loop control directly through comparison between an idling steady state NO.sub.x emission signal and an idling steady state NO.sub.x emission value of pure diesel when the engine uses the biodiesel, so that emission of NO.sub.x in the exhaust is reduced. Compared with the prior art, the disclosure has the advantages of no need of detecting a biodiesel ratio, high efficiency, good effect and the like.

Exhaust gas control apparatus for internal combustion engine
A three-way catalyst and an NO.sub.x adsorption catalyst are disposed in an engine exhaust passage. In a predetermined low-load engine operation area, combustion in a combustion chamber is carried out at a lean base air-fuel ratio and an air-fuel ratio in the combustion chamber is changed to a rich range at the time of discharging NO.sub.x from the NO.sub.x adsorption catalyst. In a predetermined high-load engine operation area, the air-fuel ratio in the combustion chamber is controlled to a theoretical air-fuel ratio in a feedback manner. In a predetermined middle-load engine operation area, the combustion in the combustion chamber is carried out at the base air-fuel ratio lower than the base air-fuel ratio in the low-load engine operation area and the air-fuel ratio in the combustion chamber is changed to the rich range with a period shorter than a rich period of the air-fuel ratio for discharging NO.sub.x in the low-load engine operation area.
