An aftertreatment component for use in an exhaust aftertreatment system. The aftertreatment component comprises an aftertreatment substrate and a compressible material. The compressible material may be formed from a plastic thermoset, a rubberized material, or a metal foil which permits for the selective expansion of the substrate within the compressible material, while also reducing cost and manufacturing complexity. In various embodiments, the aftertreatment substrate and the compressible materials may be formed separately and coupled to each other, or they may be formed concurrently via coextrusion.

The system for removing the existing core comprising a core press station, a control station, and a decore shaft. The system for installing the replacement core comprising a core press station, a control station, and a recore shaft. A stuffing funnel and spacer may be used to install the replacement core. In certain embodiments, processes for removing the existing core and installing the replacement core may comprise the steps of pressing the existing core out of the DECD housing, collecting the existing core into a collection container, sealing the collection container, wrapping the replacement core with matting, lubricating the matting, and pressing together the replacement core and the existing DECD housing.

Exhaust device

An exhaust device (108) for a vehicle is provided. The exhaust device (108) includes an outer shell (202), an inlet (206) to receive exhaust gases, an outlet (208), an inner shell (204) received within the outer shell (202), a pair of partition walls (216) and a Helmholtz neck (220). The inner shell (204) defines an inner volume (210). A plurality of first circumferential openings (212) extending through the inner shell (204) fluidly communicates the inlet (206) with the inner volume (210). A plurality of second circumferential openings (214) extending through the inner shell (204) fluidly communicates the outlet (208) with the inner volume (210). The pair of partition walls (216) is disposed between the inner shell (204) and the outer shell (202). The pair of partition walls (216), the inner shell (204) and the outer shell (202) define a Helmholtz chamber (218) therebetween. The partition walls (216) seal the Helmholtz chamber (218) from the inlet (206) and the outlet (208). The Helmholtz neck (220) is disposed on the inner shell (204) or one of the pair of partition walls (216).

A device for treating exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine includes: a heating disk arranged in a housing; and a main catalytic converter arranged downstream of the heating disk in the flow direction in the housing. The flow can pass through the heating disk and the main catalytic converter in the flow direction along a plurality of flow channels. The heating disk is formed from a metallic honeycomb body and the main catalytic converter is formed from a ceramic honeycomb body fixed in relation to the housing by a fixing structure. The heating disk is electrically contacted by an electrical feedthrough guided through the housing from the outside to the inside.

Polygonal substrate housings and assemblies

A polygonal substrate assembly includes a polygonal substrate housing, a substrate, and a compressible mat. The compressible mat is positioned about the substrate and the substrate is press-fit within the polygonal substrate housing with the compressible mat. The polygonal substrate housing may include a sidewall having a concave portion. The polygonal substrate housing may include a substrate installation portion that flares out from a main sidewall at an end of the polygonal substrate housing. The polygonal substrate housing may be formed from a plurality of substrate housing components welded together. The polygonal substrate housing can include one or more stiffening ribs. Several polygonal substrate assemblies may be combined and coupled together to form an array in various geometric configurations.
