COOLING DEVICE FOR SHIP PROPULSION MACHINE

A cooling device includes a drain passage, a collection passage and a bypass passage each connecting an upstream portion and a downstream portion of the drain passage, a branched portion branched into the collection passage and the bypass passage, and a confluence portion joined the collection passage and the bypass passage. A difference between flowing directions from the upstream portion into the branched portion and from the branched portion into the collection passage is smaller than a difference between flowing directions from the upstream portion into the branched portion and from the branched portion into the bypass passage. A difference between flowing directions from the bypass passage into the confluence portion and from the confluence portion into the downstream portion is smaller than a difference between flowing directions from the collection passage into the confluence portion and from the confluence portion into the downstream portion.

Cooling system for a power generation system on a marine vessel

A system for draining a cooling system of a power generation system on a marine vessel includes a pump in fluid communication with the cooling system, the pump actively removing cooling water from the cooling system. An outlet drain discharges the cooling water. A controller starts the pump in response to an operator command to stop a prime mover of the marine power generation system and/or a speed of the prime mover being below a threshold speed. In one example, a temperature sensor determines a temperature of the cooling water in the cooling system, and the controller stops the pump in response to the temperature of the cooling water exceeding a threshold temperature. In another example, a sensor determines a pressure and/or a level of the cooling water in the cooling system, and the controller stops the pump in response to the pressure and/or the level of the cooling water dropping below a threshold pressure or a threshold level, respectively.

Cooling water passage structure of outboard motor

An outboard motor includes a cooling water passage structure, in which a combustion chamber periphery water jacket through which the cooling water flows around the combustion chamber and an exhaust port periphery water jacket through which the cooling water flows around the exhaust port are formed in the cylinder head, a cylinder periphery water jacket through which the cooling water flows around the cylinder is formed in the cylinder block, and an exhaust passage periphery water jacket through which the cooling water flows around the exhaust passage is formed around the exhaust passage. The water jackets are connected such that the cooling water from the water passage will flow through the combustion chamber periphery water jacket, the exhaust port periphery water jacket, the cylinder periphery water jacket, and the exhaust passage periphery water jacket in order.

Open Loop Cooling Water System Having Recirculation Pump

An open loop cooling water system is for a marine engine. A cooling water inlet receives cooling water from a body of water. A cooling water outlet discharges the cooling water back to the body of water. A cooling water circuit conveys cooling water from the cooling water inlet, through the marine engine, and to the cooling water outlet. A cooling water pump that pumps cooling water from upstream to downstream through the cooling water circuit. A recirculation pump that is located in the cooling water circuit downstream of at least one component of the marine engine and upstream of the cooling water outlet. The recirculation pump is configured to pump cooling water from downstream of the marine engine back into the cooling water circuit upstream of the marine engine. Methods are for cooling a marine engine using an open loop cooling system.
