The intake system including a compressor assembly having an inlet and an outlet, and where the outlet is configured to be open to and in fluid communication with at least one of the one or more cylinders. The intake system also includes a passageway extending between and in fluid communication with the inlet and the outlet and configured to direct a first flow of gasses and a controller in operable communication with the compressor assembly. Where the intake system is operable in a first mode in which the majority of gasses of the first flow of gasses flow through the passageway toward the outlet, and a second mode in which the majority of gasses of the first flow of gasses flow through the passageway toward the inlet.

There is provided an engine equipped with a supercharger that suppresses heat deterioration of engine oil. The engine equipped with a supercharger includes a supercharger; an oil supply passage that supplies engine oil to a shaft bearing part of the supercharger; an oil discharge passage that discharges the engine oil from the shaft bearing part of the supercharger; and a water-cooling-type oil cooler. The water-cooling-type oil cooler is provided in the oil discharge passage, and the engine oil discharged from the shaft bearing part of the supercharger is cooled by the engine cooling water that passes the water-cooling-type oil cooler. The engine cooling water is desirably supplied from the cylinder jacket to the water-cooling-type oil cooler.

According to the present invention, a rotary blower or supercharger includes a recirculation loop for readmitting pressurized outlet gas back into the rotor chambers, and cooling means for cooling the pressurized outlet gas before it is readmitted into the rotor chambers, thereby providing a supercharger having a lower operating temperature and a higher operating pressure capability. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, a supercharger includes a housing assembly defining first and second transversely overlapping cylindrical chambers. The housing defines an inlet port for the inflow of an inlet gas, and an outlet port for the outflow of the outlet gas. The supercharger further has first and second meshed, lobed rotors respectively disposed in the chambers for counter rotation about axes substantially coincident with the chamber axes. According to the present invention, the housing further includes a recirculation port and a recirculation flow path for recirculation of a portion of outlet gas flowing out of the outlet port back into cylindrical chamber. The recirculation flow path further including cooling means for cooling of at least a portion of the outlet gas, thereby providing a cooler operating supercharger.

The bearing condition monitoring device includes a first temperature sensor for measuring a temperature of the thrust bearing, and an arithmetic device for counting a frequency at which an evaluation index of a thrust load on the basis of a measurement value by the first temperature sensor exceeds an allowable value, and for outputting an abnormality in the condition of the thrust bearing if the counted frequency exceeds a threshold. The arithmetic device may count, as the frequency, only a case where a state in which the thrust load exceeds an upper limit load continues for not less than a predetermined time.
