Gas-assisted fluid atomizing injector
A liquid injector atomizer for direct injection in to the cylinder of an internal combustion engine is provided, with a supply of pressurized liquid a supply of pressurized gas, a body, and a nozzle with two or more orifices each for the liquid and the gas. Each orifice directs a jet of metered pressurized liquid or gas out of the injector body. At least two of the liquid jets are aimed at one or more collision points, where at least two gas jet streams collide at a same collision point or another collision point, thereby creating a finely atomized liquid.
Internal Combustion Engine
An internal combustion engine includes a piston and a fuel injection valve. The fuel injection valve includes a first injection hole, a second injection hole, a first needle configured to open and close the first injection hole, and a second needle configured to open and close the second injection hole. The first injection hole and the second injection hole are configured such that a portion of a fuel spray injected from the first injection hole and a portion of a fuel spray injected from the second injection hole overlap each other at a position apart at a predetermined distance from a side wall of a cavity of the piston. The second needle is configured to start operation in order to open the second injection hole after a predetermined time has elapsed from a point of time when the first needle starts operation in order to open the first injection hole.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A fuel injection valve has first injection holes, second injection holes, a first needle that opens and closes the first injection holes, and a second needle. The fuel injection valve is arranged such that a part of fuel injected from the first injection hole and a part of fuel injected from the second injection hole are gathered together at a position spaced from the side wall of the cavity by a predetermined distance. The second needle starts operating to open the second injection holes, after a predetermined time elapses from a point in time at which the first needle starts operating to open the first injection holes.
CONTROLLED AIR ENTRAINMENT PASSAGE FOR DIESEL ENGINES
Systems are provided for cooling combustion chamber gasses and increasing an amount of air entrained in an injected fuel spray. In one example, a cooling passage may be included in an internal combustion engine, the cooling passage positioned exterior to a cylinder bore of the engine and coupled to the cylinder bore at a first opening and a second opening. The cooling passage may receive gasses from the cylinder bore via the first opening, and may cool the gasses as they travel through the cooling passage before returning the gasses to the cylinder bore via the second opening.
Ducted combustion systems utilizing duct structures
A ducted combustion system is disclosed. The ducted combustion system includes a combustion chamber bound by a flame deck surface of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and by a piston top surface of a piston disposed within the internal combustion engine. The system includes a fuel injector including a plurality of orifices, the plurality of orifices injecting fuel into the combustion chamber as a plurality of fuel jets. The system includes a duct structure defining a plurality of ducts and disposed within the combustion chamber between the flame deck surface and the piston top surface, the plurality of ducts being disposed such that each of the plurality of fuel jets at least partially enters one of the plurality of ducts upon being injected into the combustion chamber.
Combustion chamber of direct injection diesel engine having inducers
The present disclosure relates to a combustion chamber of a diesel engine, which has a recessed combustion bowl to mix fuel injected from an injector with air, the combustion chamber including: a cylinder head which has the injector mounted thereto and is positioned at an upper side of the combustion bowl; a cylinder block which is positioned at a lower side of the cylinder head; and a piston which moves upward and downward in the cylinder block and faces the cylinder head, in which a plurality of radial inducers is provided on a bottom surface of the cylinder head around the injector.
DIESEL DUCTED FUEL INJECTOR
An apparatus for a diesel engine in a motor vehicle includes a base and a plurality of ducts positioned on the base. The base is positioned about a fuel injector. When the fuel injector injects a plurality of fuel sprays into a cylinder of the diesel engine, some of the plurality of fuel sprays are directed by the plurality of ducts into the cylinder.
METHOD OF INJECTING AMMONIA FUEL INTO A RECIPROCATING ENGINE
A method of injection of liquid or gaseous ammonia fuel into a reciprocating engine that includes at least two cylinders, each cylinder including a piston that moves reciprocally within that cylinder, each cylinder having a head location at one end located opposite to a compression end of the piston and defining a combustion chamber therebetween, the cylinder including at least one inlet valve through which combustion gases are fed into the combustion chamber and at least one exhaust valve through which spent combustion gases egress the combustion chamber, the piston moving the cylinder in a cycle between top dead center where the piston is located closest to the head location and bottom dead center where the piston is located furthest from the head location, and including at least one fuel injector located at or in the head location, and wherein the method comprises: injecting the ammonia fuel into the combustion chamber of each cylinder as at least one fuel jet with a timing of: after the at least one exhaust valve of the respective cylinder is substantially closed; and before the respective piston moves to at most 35 degrees, preferably at most 45 degrees, prior to top dead centre.

A piston for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The piston comprises a number of fuel directing surfaces for directing a fuel spray sprayed onto the fuel directing surface. At least one of the fuel direction surfaces is/are inclined relative to a tangential direction of the piston. The present disclosure further relates to an engine comprising a piston and a vehicle comprising an internal combustion engine.
Method and apparatus for producing stratified streams
Embodiments of apparatus are disclosed for affecting working fluid flow in a system that delivers material between two locations by carrying the material in the working fluid. For example, embodiments of the disclosed apparatus may be used in an internal combustion engines to carry fuel droplets to a combustion area using air as the working fluid. The apparatus may include a passage including a funnel portion and tumble area that direct working fluid into a stratified stream. The stratified stream may include an outer boundary flow having a toroidal and/or helical flow characteristic and an inner flow carrying injected material that is bound by the outer flow.
