Dual fuel injection system for optimizing fuel usage and minimizing slip for diesel engines
The invention involves a system and method for providing a liquid fuel or a liquid and gaseous fuel to a diesel or Otto cycle engine for operation of the engine. The system includes a primary electronic control module (ECM), which monitors engine sensors and contains a first three-dimensional fuel map for the liquid fuel. A second ECM is connected for bi-directional transfer of information to the first ECM, the second ECM contains a second three-dimensional fuel map for delivery of the gaseous fuel through a secondary gaseous fuel injection assembly. The bi-directional communication between the two ECMs while monitoring the engine sensors allows both ECMs to “learn” an efficient fuel map for delivery of both fuels in the same cycle for improved efficiency, reduction in slip and lower emissions.
Engine
An engine including a main fuel injection valve, a pilot fuel injection valve, a liquid fuel supply rail pipe, and a pilot fuel supply rail pipe. The main fuel injection valve supplies liquid fuel from the liquid fuel supply rail pipe to a combustion chamber during combustion in a diffusion combustion system. The pilot fuel injection valve supplies pilot fuel from the pilot fuel supply rail pipe to the combustion chamber in order to ignite gaseous fuel during combustion in a premixed combustion system. The liquid fuel supply rail pipe is disposed at one side of an imaginary vertical plane (P1) including an axis of a crank shaft. The pilot fuel supply rail pipe is disposed at the side of the imaginary vertical plane at which the liquid fuel supply rail pipe is disposed.
Fuel booster system
A fuel booster system having a fuel inlet port, a fuel outlet port, and a fuel accumulator fluidically coupled to both ports. The fuel inlet port allows fuel to be delivered to the fuel accumulator and the fuel outlet port is in fluid communication with a combustion engine to deliver fuel from the fuel booster system to the combustion engine. A source of pressurized gas is also fluidically coupled to the fuel accumulator to deliver pressurized gas through a gas port in one end of the fuel accumulator. A piston is located within the fuel accumulator and the source of pressurized gas can be discharged into the fuel accumulator to force accumulated fuel from the fuel accumulator and to the engine when the fuel booster system determines that the engine needs more fuel.
DUAL-FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR DIRECT INJECTION
A dual-fuel supply system (100) for direct injection for engines of heavy vehicles, comprising: a supply line of a combustible liquid (160); a supply line of a combustible gas (170); a plurality of injectors (150) in fluid communication with the supply line of the combustible liquid (160) and with the supply line of the combustible gas (170); a pressure regulator device (1) for regulating the combustible gas; an electronic control unit (ECU) configured to control the supply of combustible liquid and of the combustible gas to the injectors (150), the electronic control unit (ECU) being configured to control the pressure regulator device (1) to track a reference pressure (p.sub.target) according to a feedback logic.
Supplemental fuel system for compression-ignition engine
A supplemental fuel system includes a supplemental fuel tank, an electronic valve, a voltage sensor, and a controller. The supplemental fuel tank is configured to store a supplemental fuel configured to supplement a primary fuel used by an engine. The electronic valve is configured to be positioned between the supplemental fuel tank and an air supply system for the engine. The voltage sensor is configured to acquire voltage data from a power supply indicative of a voltage of the power supply. The power supply is configured to receive power from an alternator driven by the engine. The controller is configured to control the electronic valve such that the electronic valve is (i) closed in response to the voltage being less than a voltage threshold and (ii) open or openable in response to the voltage being greater than the voltage threshold.
Engine
An engine including a main fuel injection valve, a pilot fuel injection valve, a liquid fuel supply rail pipe, and a pilot fuel supply rail pipe. The main fuel injection valve supplies liquid fuel from the liquid fuel supply rail pipe to a combustion chamber during combustion in a diffusion combustion system. The pilot fuel injection valve supplies pilot fuel from the pilot fuel supply rail pipe to the combustion chamber in order to ignite gaseous fuel during combustion in a premixed combustion system. The liquid fuel supply rail pipe is disposed at one side of an imaginary vertical plane including an axis of a crank shaft. The pilot fuel supply rail pipe is disposed at the side of the imaginary vertical plane at which the liquid fuel supply rail pipe is disposed.
Fuel Source Adapter for Combustion Engines
A system provides a fuel source adapter for a combustion engine. The fuel source adapter is located at least partially between an air intake and the combustion chamber of the engine, such as at the carburetor or throttle body. The combustion chamber receives airflow from the air intake manifold that is delivered through an airflow passage. The fuel source adapter has a spacer plate portion and a velocity stack. The velocity stack extends from the spacer plate to the air intake manifold. An axial airflow passage extends through the velocity stack and the spacer plate. The axial airflow passage is aligned with the airflow passage of the carburetor or throttle body. The spacer plate has a transverse fuel inlet. The transverse fuel inlet extends to the axial airflow passage and enables a fluid connection to the axial airflow passage.
Engine
An engine including a main fuel injection valve, a pilot fuel injection valve, a liquid fuel supply rail pipe, and a pilot fuel supply rail pipe. The main fuel injection valve supplies liquid fuel from the liquid fuel supply rail pipe to a combustion chamber during combustion in a diffusion combustion system. Supplemental fuel system for compression-ignition engine
A supplemental fuel system for a machine having a compression-ignition engine includes an air intake tube. The air intake tube has a first end configured to interface with an air cleaner of an air supply system that provides air to the compression-ignition engine, a second end configured to interface with a compressor of a turbocharger of the air supply system, and a sidewall extending between the first end and the second end. The sidewall includes a fuel interface configured to facilitate providing a supplemental fuel into the air intake tube to mix with the air upstream of the compressor of the turbocharger.
Dynamic variable fuel optimization system
Present invention optimizes utilization of different fuels in various single and multi-fueled engines. The fuel system and optimization controller links fuel properties (physical, reactionary, combustion etc.) to on-board computer systems during the refueling process. This link enables fuel and additive producers an opportunity to optimize combustion parameters of their proprietary fuel blends to increase performance, fuel efficiencies and reduce emissions.
