A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine that includes an EGR channel and an EGR valve is configured, when the internal combustion engine is in a warm-up process and when an intake air flow rate that is a flow rate of air supplied to the internal combustion engine main body is less than or equal to a predetermined value, to open the EGR valve with a minute opening degree that is an opening degree smaller than a minimum opening degree of the EGR valve with which a condensed water in an exhaust-channel-side portion that is a portion of the EGR channel on a side closer to the exhaust channel relative to the EGR valve flows into an intake-channel-side portion that is a portion of the EGR channel on a side closer to the intake channel relative to the EGR valve.

Control device for internal combustion engine and control method for internal combustion engine

A control device to be applied to an internal combustion engine having a fuel reformation cylinder and an output cylinder, wherein the compression end gas temperature of the fuel reformation cylinder is adjusted by changing an EGR gas amount, an effective compression ratio, or a polytropic number according to an equivalence ratio in the fuel reformation cylinder so as to achieve a target concentration of a specific gas component in reformed fuel generated in the fuel reformation cylinder. The target concentration is defined according to a required engine power.

Intake and exhaust system for preventing the generation of condensed water and operating methods thereof

An intake and exhaust system for preventing generation of condensed water may include: an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system circulating some of combustion gas from an exhaust pipe to an intake pipe; an active purging system compressing and supplying evaporation gas generated from a fuel tank to the intake pipe; and a controller to control the EGR system and the active purging system. In particular, the controller calculates a saturated water vapor pressure based on temperature at a position between the EGR system and the intake pipe, and calculates a saturated water vapor pressure based on temperature of the intake pipe and then compares one of the two saturated water vapor pressures with a water vapor pressure of intake air so as to reduce an EGR rate of the EGR system or a purging rate of the active purging system based on the comparison result.

To provide a controller and a control method for an internal combustion engine capable of estimating exhaust gas temperature at any estimation positions of the exhaust pipe with good accuracy by taking into consideration a temperature drop of exhaust gas by heat radiation of the exhaust pipe. A controller for an internal combustion engine is provided with an outlet gas temperature calculator that calculates an outlet gas temperature which is a temperature of exhaust gas at an outlet of a combustion chamber, based on the driving condition; a heat radiation amount calculator that calculates a temperature decrease amount of the exhaust gas by heat radiation of an exhaust pipe from the outlet of the combustion chamber to an estimation position; and an exhaust gas temperature estimation calculator that estimate an exhaust gas temperature at the estimation position by subtracting the temperature decrease amount from the outlet gas temperature.

Systems and methods for particulate filter cleaning

Methods and systems are provided for cleaning an exhaust particulate filter by routing air via the exhaust particulate filter during a vehicle-off condition. In one example, during vehicle-off conditions, a turbocharger may be reverse rotated via an electric motor or an engine may be reverse rotated via an electric machine to route air via the exhaust particulate filter and the soot collected from the particulate filter may then be deposited on an air filter coupled to the intake manifold. During a subsequent engine start, the soot from the intake air filter may be routed to the engine cylinders for combustion.

An EGR control device includes: a drive unit, a basic opening degree deriving unit, a measurement unit, a memory unit, a correction opening degree deriving unit and a control unit. The drive unit varies an opening degree of an EGR valve. The basic opening degree deriving unit derives a basic EGR valve opening degree based on an operating condition of an engine. The measurement unit measures a temperature in the downstream side of a position of where EGR gas is recirculated in an intake passage. In the memory unit, information acquired in advance is stored. The information indicates a relationship between the opening degree and a temperature difference. The correction opening degree deriving unit derives a correction opening degree with reference to the information. The control unit controls the drive unit such that the opening degree of the EGR valve becomes a target EGR valve opening degree by correcting the basic EGR valve opening degree with the correction opening degree.
